NBR interview update and BR stuff

I had my interview this afternoon for the teaching position at ASU that was what was similar to the job I didn't get a few months back at my current school. It went great. I gave thorough in depth answers to their questions and had great feedback from them and also asked them some questions they liked. I was happy that things were looking good. The problem? Their salary range was less than or equal to what I'm already making... Something that I had hoped would be a little more with it being a larger school. And it is a fiscal year contract meaning I would work year round and not have the summers off like I do now. I'm so bummed. I feel like I wasted an interview because I'm really not sure if I would accept the position if they offered it to me. I guess this makes me grateful for how lenient my current school is with hours and scheduling even though I'm doing the level of work that a student worker can do.

In other baby related news, DS is officially taking steps, A LOT. He followed DH back and forth through the kitchen only catching himself on something twice. He laughs and thinks it is hilarious, this walking thing. I tell ya, it only takes a few days of a few free handed steps and then they're off!

Re: NBR interview update and BR stuff

  • Is there a way they can increase the pay sense your current job allows you summers off?

    Yay forwalking! Exciting times :)

  • That stinks about the job interview.  Is your current job doable until you find something you love?

    Yay for steps!

  • I'm sorry [:] Is it something that you'd move up the salary schedule to be worth it in the future or get summers off with seniority?

  • Does it at least have benefits? That might make up for the pay.

  • It has full benefits, but my current job does too. I'm not sure if the salary would be negotiable at all, or if the seniority would really be worth it. They asked if I would be willing to teach lectures or other labs for upper level classes, but I imagine that would involve extended work hours and/or trying to get me to do as much as I can on as little pay as possible. I've held too many other jobs that have tried that.

The interviewers did mention that there is also a lab coordinator position that just opened up, but I wonder if the salary is any different. I guess I'm just stuck at this pay grade for awhile.
  • As I think about it, I know I sound like a brat with the whole salary issue, but really I could eventually advance at my current employer it's just a matter of painfully waiting. I'm just looking for the same thing elsewhere in hopes to get there faster and to be compensated for it accordingly. KWIM?
