My due date is Feb. 8. I'm a teacher and planning on taking my leave after Christmas Break through May. So I'll be off work from Dec. 20- Aug. 1 but technically taking 18 weeks of actual work time off.
I was put on bed rest due to PTL (preterm labor) with DS at 32 weeks... praying that doesn't happen this time!
What's your plan?

I'm due two days before you but I'm in the same boat! I may have to go back for the last few weeks in June depending on FMLA but I'm hoping to stay out until September.
We're going to use my time off as a "trial run" of sorts... I may SAH for a few years. After daycare/preschool costs, I will be working full time for roughly $700/month!!
Last time I was in dental school so I worked until the day I was induced at 41 weeks and then took 2 weeks off. I am glad to have that extra two weeks this time.
You should be able to stay off work up to a year, with your job protected. The issue comes in when you have the school's insurance. Then you have to pay the premium rate for insurance after 12 weeks, I believe.
Yeah, it's ridiculous. That's why we're doing it this way. I didn't want to leave work, then go back, then leave again, etc. This way I will be back relatively soon (in the grand scheme of things) and we won't have to worry about daycare costs. It's tight right now, but I feel like, for us, it's working and it's worth it.

Look into your school district's pregnancy/FMLA policy. Our jobs are protected for us to take 1 year off work with FMLA (unpaid).
FMLA is a federal law that provides 12 weeks of job protection provided you've been employed somewhere over a year, the employing body has more than 50 employees and the employer can't prove that your absence causes undue hardship. Many teachers unions have provisions for being able to take a year off, but it's not universal and it's not due to fmla, it's due to individual negotiations. Just as an FYI!
In my case, I'm planning on taking somewhere between 10 and 12 weeks, depending on whether i deliver vaginally or by c section, because it effects how long my std goes.

I can actually take 2 years but the problem is insurance and paychecks haha
this about leave time. every state and district is different. my district reads the law one way and others read it another. it's been greived but never won because the law leaves it open to interpretation
This is me exactly! With my due date and several holidays and spring break, I will only be out of the classroom 25 school days. Maybe they won't hold that against me...

I have really have no idea because we are about to move and I am just starting the job search. If we weren't moving, I'd plan to take about 4 months off with my current job. But I have no idea how things will work out with my new job (if I'm lucky enough to find one).
Also, my husband is a college coach and this baby would be born right at the start of his season...his first season at this new school, so that may complicate things a bit.
Also a teacher!!!!!
My best friend is too she had her baby Feb and said it was the best time for teacher babies.
I have been stressing this decision since we started trying 2 years ago. I think I'll be taking this school year and then next off. Totally scared because teaching is my life, but we have some major projects to deal with this fall before baby arrives. For next year, looking at the cost of infant day care it's like over 1/3 of my take home. The stress of working and baby doesn't seem worth it.
Holy teachers batman!!
I am retired as I like to call it. I went back to work for a few months after DD and was miserable. Now I will remain a SAHM and when the kids are grown I will remain a homemaker. A have other girlfriends who are homemakers too. I have tons to do. Bible studies, volunteering, play groups, swimming, Gymboree. I'm a busy lady LOL

I will probably take 12wks, I took 11 with DS because that's how much PTO I had stocked up and I wish I had just taken the last week unpaid.
Unfortunately I don't have as much stocked up this time so it'll be more like 6wks unpaid, but I wouldn't feel physically ready to return to work at 6wks pp even though I know some women do. We are saving up to cover the time off unpaid.
Due Feb 12. I took 12 weeks unpaid with my first, then went back part time for a while, then back to full time. I was on bed rest weeks 33-35, and then delivered. Honestly, DH and I have been thinking about me staying home after this one, as my salary would go mostly to daycare. Everyone told me after I came back from leave last time that they didn't expect me to be back!
If I decided to go back I'd still take the 12 weeks, paid or unpaid.
I do feel extremely lucky and greateful for this though!
