Mommy Guilt

I'm in Atlanta for one night. I'm in my hotel when I get a sudden urge to call DH and see how DS is before bed.

DH tells me that DS has diarrhea and terrible diaper rash again.  I dropped him off at DC this morning and his butt looked fine this morning, but he's had some nasty, blowout poos the past two days.

DH says something about DC saying they refuse to use CDs until it's cleared up. I could barely hear him over DS' screaming.

DH sounded pissed, but I think he's pissed at DC. CDs are more likely to PREVENT diaper rash not the other way around and they've been going 3 hours sometimes without checking him.

All I wanted to do tonight was enjoy a dinner out and a good night's sleep. Instead I feel terrible for not being there for DS and can't get the sound of his screaming out of my head. I barely talked to DH because I wanted to let him take care of DS. My poor baby.

Re: Mommy Guilt

  • That really stinks! Mommy guilt is the worst and before having a baby I rotly didn't get it. Hope you're able to find some time to relax and things clear up soon!!

  • Awww, hugs.  That sucks.  First thing is to remember that your DH is a great dad and that DS is probably happy chillin' with dad (other than the whole painful diaper rash issue.)

Definitely talk to the DC because cloth diapers need to be changed more often than that!  Can you have your DH drop off some coconut oil or other cloth-safe diaper cream at the DC?  You could even call the DC provider from OOT if it would make you feel better.

Lastly, I think what you need is to enjoy a glass of wine and to make the best of your time away!

  • Thanks ladies!

I talked to DH again and he was calm and not mad at me (not that he should be).  He said the rash was as bad as last time if not worse. Very frustrating that it could get that bad within a 10 hour period.

Hopefully they're using the dry wipes from last time. I'll talk to them about using the cloth instead of the disposables. They told DH the cloth weren't being as absorbent. Last time the only thing that helped clear it up was corn starch which is fine to use with cloth.

I'll have to talk to them about checking him more often, though I know it's not that. It's clearly an upset tummy and whatever he's eating is causing the rash. Good lord did those poops smell this weekend.

I wish I could figure out the common denominator. In the meantime, I've had a margarita and am headed to bed soon. Probably won't make it home tomorrow night to see him before bed, but I can't wait to see his face on Wednesday.
