Question: What do I need to buy as far as storage for milk when I pump? I have storage bottles and storage milk bags on my registry and I didn't get either but I just put them bc I wasn't sure.
My last shower was yesterday- which was so much fun and my sister did such an amazing job btw- and we are going to pick everything else up we need tonight. Thanks!
Re: Breast Feeding
Are you eventually going back to work or are you just plan on pumping here and there? If you plan to go back to work I'd suggest the storage bags. I like to pump into the bottles and I just pour what I pumped into the bags.
If you plan on freezing your stash there is fun little trick I found online where someone used a small gift bag, cut out a slit on the side at the bottom and then put the bagged milk sideways, stacked on top of each other in the bag, so when you went to reach for one to use you would grab from the bottom of the pile through the slit. I hope I'm describing this where it makes sense.
Advent is a good choice. We used Born Free. Any wide mouth bottle is good for BF babies bc they are most similar to the breast. I would start with just a few of the smaller size with size 1 nipples. Some babies are picky and you might have to try a different kind. We have 4 small and 2 large of the Born Free. We hardly ever used the large ones but DD didn't eat a ton. She was a peanut. I believe all the bottles will come with size 1 nipples and I suggest using them as long as possible if you are BFing. If you use a larger nipple size the baby gets milk much faster and then possibly, they won't want to work for it on the boob and get bottle preference.
My DS was pretty particular with what bottle he liked and didn't at first. We got glass dr. brown bottles but he didn't like them. What he ended up taking was Breastflow bottles by First Year. They don't come in glass but I was desperate that he get some milk when I returned to work because he refused everything else. Eventually we moved on to Born Free. Basically it will depend on your child so I wouldn't get a lot to start off with.
Definitely don't invest in too many bottles at first. My DD refused bottles and basically never took a bottle reliably. And we tried everything on the market! She eventually just took a straw cup at 5 or 6 months.
As for milk storage I just used bags. A lot of them. I built a huge supply. They're the most convenient and spacesaving option IMO.
Yeah I'll be going back to work after 12 weeks. I plan on pumping more so than feeding unless I decide otherwise once I get started. Just so my dh can feed and when I go back to work I won't be able to breastfeed near as much.
As far as bottles- just get a few of the smaller oz ones? DH thought we should get a few 9 oz but I thought maybe more so the 4 oz? We are clueless. Thanks for the help!
For the bolded, just FYI, I thought that idea sounded all great when I was pg with DD1. But the problem is, to keep your supply up, you need to pump anytime LO needs to eat. So when DH is giving a bottle, you would need to pump. So it actually does't really save you much time/rest. Of course, it's a good idea by about 4w to introduce a bottle so that would be a good thing to do with DH, but you will still need to pump.
Yes, I would just get a few of the smaller bottles to start. Make sure LO likes them and then once they start eating more, you can get some of the 9oz if needed.
This. With DD I used bags.
I just had the Lansinoh bags for storage in the freezer. When I wanted to use the milk, I poured it into my Avent bottles. I personally bought a 5 pack of the 4oz bottles. They come with the correct size nipples for the young age. Target is the cheapest for them and they go on sale pretty much every other week.

You will eventually need the 9oz bottles. A lot of my friends recommend just skipping ahead and getting them. If you do that, you need to get the slower flow nipples.

Be careful with the Avent bottles though. DO NOT buy the pink ones, the blue ones, or the ones that are tinted brown. They leak so much! They don't come with the ring like the other bottles, which I believe is part of the reason.
