DH and I are talking names. We could name a Dugger size family of girls, but always seem to come up empty handed on boy names. One we both kind of like is Jacob. Aside from the ridiculous level of popularity, what are your thoughts on this name?
The popularity of names doesn't bother me. If it's one that you both really like and can agree on, go for it. I think Jacob is a strong, (but yes, common), name. I also like the nn Jake.
I am definitely in the minority on this one. I don't like it and have never understood why it's so popular. For me, it's just one of the Justin, Joshua, Jason, Jeremy boy names that start with J.
DS is Jacob. We love it and it's a family name. As to its popularity, the youngest Jake we know (and he's a Jake, not Jacob) is 24. I don't know where all these Jacobs/Jakes are hiding, because we don't know them.
We've actually met more people with DD's name, and the popularity of her name is in the 30s.
I think its a nice strong boy name. Popularity doesn't bother me as much with boy names for some reason if I like it as much as it does with girls.. no idea why!
I love the name Jacob. Very strong. One of my favorites...but I have a 5 year old first cousin by that name, and two good friends have used it for their LOs in the past two years.
My name is Jackie given to me in the post Jackie O days. There was another girl named Jackie in my class from Pre-K through 8th grade and now there is another Jackie on the leadership team at work. Honestly, it never bothered me at all being Jackie "last initial" or Jackie "last name" in those settings. It may not bother your potential little Jacob either.
Re: Jacob
It's a solid masculine name, but I am bugged by the overuse.
I have the same issue as you do with boys names. They're hard.

Boy names are much harder for us too. Maybe because the good ones are "going girl." I kid. Kind of.
I like Jacob/Jake.
My son is Jacob/Jake and I still love the name despite how popular it is.
