Hi all, I was wondering if any of you have gotten a second opinion and at what point, in particular those of you currently unexplained. My diagnosis is currently unexplained and we are going into IUI 3 this month with femara again. My RE is wanting us to schedule a follow up appointment with him after 3 or 4 iui's if no bfp by then. He mentioned lap surgery to check for endo as a possibility at that point. I am pretty early in the treatment process still, but I would like to hear your experiences or plans for getting another opinion. It stinks because we are OOP and will have to pay for the introductory appointments and testing again with another RE, but I know I should do it. I guess I just want to time it right to make the most of it. Thanks everyone!

Re: Second Opinions?
I did switch REs for a second opinion, but it was much earlier in the game for me and it was for a different reason. I didn't agree with the treatment plan our first RE came up with (unmonitored clomid + IUI), so I switched REs and found one that would come up with a treatment plan I was comfortable with.
I did most of my testing with my OB/GYN, but I had no problem transferring the results of what little blood work that RE #1 did to RE #2. I haven't had to redo any testing switching REs, but my current RE did do some additional testing (more ultrasounds, some extra blood work, post coital test).
ETA: Our diagnosis of "unexplained" hasn't really changed, although RE #2 did find possible hostile CM issues. Overall our treatment plan didn't change either, both REs watnted to do 3-4 IUIs and then move on to IVF. The difference was monitoring for the IUIs which RE #1 didn't think was necessary.

PAIF/SAIF Welcome!
You won't have to do all of the tests again. Most of the time your current RE's office can just send your previous test results over for your new consult. We did pay for another SA and some different blood tests that hadn't been done yet, but it wasn't very much.
I got a 2nd opinion after my HSG showed some partial blockage but the RE wanted to move forward with an IUI. I felt like things were too rushed and she was just going through the motions of getting me to the IUI phase. I like my new RE a lot more. Some people may have the opposite feeling and go back to the original RE. Either way, I think it's good to get a 2nd opinion just to reinforce the confidence you have in whichever RE you choose.
