Quick Q...
I feel like I'm very lacking in understanding where my child is at developmentally right now, especially with language acquisition. Have you read anything that is helping you understand your one-year-old? I have seen mixed reviews on Dr. Karp's Happiest Toddler book, and since his Happiest Baby book did NOT do a whole lot for my "spirited" child, I'm a little gun-shy of his advice.
Re: Good Parenting Books?
It's a bit dated, but I really like Brazelton's "Touchpoints".
Here is the book:
https://www.amazon.com/Touchpoints-Birth-Three-T-Berry-Brazelton/dp/0738210498/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1372031671&sr=8-1&keywords=touchpoints+birth+to+3
And here is his website: https://www.brazeltontouchpoints.org
I like the book because he provides a LOT of info about each stage, he goes beyond the basic walking & talking. For example, DH was super concerned when DD started grabbing her crotch during diaper changes. According to the Brazelton book, DD is right on track for when baby girls start to discover this part of their body, lol.
Also, the Sears 'Baby Book' is good!
I read a bunch of parenting books when we were having trouble with my son biting (he was 20months). Happiest Toddler had a few good tips but I wouldn't recommend it overall. (also Karp was obviously never the parent of a serial biter)
I would recommend checking out a few different ones from the library and if you find one you like then buy it.
