Latest OB will let you go for a VBAC?

I am having a normal pregnancy with no complications. With my first, I had a large fibroid and the baby was breech, so she was unable to turn. Anyways, fibroid has been removed and everything is smooth sailing so far.

OB states she would love for me to go into labor on my own by week 39 so we don't even have to schedule a c-section. She said she could induce me with a small amount of pitocin around if my cervix is favorable. However, she said by week 40, she will schedule me for s c-section if those things aren't happening. I agree with her that if nothing is going on, an induction would probably lead to an emergency c-section. That being said, she will schedule me for a c-section at the latest for week 41. I'm reading other OBs won't let women go past due date. I never went into labor with my first since we had a schedule caesarean at 38w5d. I'm just nervous i'll go overdue. I'm asking her at my next appt (which won't be until week 38) if she'll strip my membranes. I'm scared of pitocin.

How late are other OBs letting patients go waiting on labor to begin naturally?

I was allowed to go to 41 weeks, and then be induced or RCS, depending upon cervical favorability. But that is the latest my hospital allows, for anyone, not just vbacs.

I could have gone until 42 weeks, and had the option to induce if I wanted to. Once I hit 41 weeks, they wanted me to have biophysical profiles. I would definitely push back about scheduling a RCS at 41 weeks. I would also wait until 40+ for stripping membranes.

I can go 10 days past my EDD. But my OB will not induce a VBAC. So if I don't go into labor on my own I get a RCS on day 10.

42 weeks then have the option of induction.

My OB was willing to "talk" at 41w. His recommendation was to schedule RCS for 41w, but he also said he had let VBAC moms go past if things were looking favorable. He was monitoring baby's size closely because I have good sized babies. She ended up being 9lbs even at 40w2d, and I went into labor on my own. We had tried a sweep three days earlier at 4cm, 80 percent, but it only made ma crampy and achy for two days.

My advice? Just keep saying that you'd prefer to wait as long as possible barring medical necessity. And if you're not comfortable with a pit induction, just say no thanks. I wasn't comfortable with it, but thankfully my OB wasn't, either, so induction wasnt an option for me.

Our midwife said we can go till week 42. Not sure if that means labor on own till week 42 or come week 42 we'll have to be induced on that day

Its natural to go 42 weeks. That being said i am firm on where i stand and refuse to go to the dr for a csection before that i am trying for a vbac

My OB is very cutting edge when it comes to VBACs (unlike prior OBs), she let me go to 41 wks 2 days, and had an induction scheduled for following day. She even tried to break my water in the office prior to that, unsuccessfully, ha! That being said, another dr. ultimately ended up delivering DS, but I couldn't have cared less--my OB called me to check on me and even showed up during her lunch break. I know I'm lucky, she is amazing!

Re pitocin, ask if your dr. would consider a foley catheter-- it's essentially a mechanical way of dilating the cervix, without the nasty side effects of pit.
