hotels..

any tips??

we'll need two playpens as DS1 isn't in a big bed yet. and the only room they had left only has 1 KING bed so we can't divide and conquer with sharing beds...

we're driving there so we'll have our vehicle to take all the 'stuff'

but they are both asleep by 7/730...so then what?! we'll just sit in the bathroom on the floor drink wine and watch a movie on the laptop? haha

any ideas? and tips for travelling with kids?

TIA! .

Re: hotels..

  • If you have a PnP then bring it.  If not, I'm sure you can get one cheap or if you're ok with it a lot of hotels have cribs.  The last time we were in a similar situation as yours (one-room hotel room) the kids were about the same age as your kids.  We just kept them out all day and they napped in the stroller when needed.  We didn't get back to the hotel until 10 p.m. and everyone just crashed.  One time DD and I went with DH on a business trip when she was about 8 months.  Same deal with the one-room.  I just sat in the area next to the bathroom with my computer while DD slept.  I even ate my takeout there.  You do what you gotta do!

  • We usually try to find places with suites so that DS can sleep in one room while we hang out in the other (if feasible).

  • We have done hotels with DD a lot since she was born. Like PP said a suite is our first choice but always available or affordable. So usually after DD one parent will go out and the other one stays. I usually hang out in the bathroom till she is alseep then can move to laying on the bed, sitting on couch. I watch movies on my iPad or read.

  • Our kids slept so much on the car ride, they stayed up until 10pm and then we all went to sleep together. We kept that late night, lots of naps schedule for the rest of the trip.

We brought 2 pack n plays and we all slept ok.

Hmm I'd check with the hotel most have cots or pack n plays available, and as for sitting in the bathroom drinking wine maybe one of the pack n plays will fit in there for the night. You could always watch the movie in bed with headphones.

  • We travel a ton. I gave up on wasting trunk space and time with my own pnp and just have the hotel bring 2 cribs or pnp's to the room. Although recently we're down to 1. I usually send DH to the bar or out to grab us dinner, get the kids to sleep, and then slowly introduce a light, the tv with no volume and then turn it up slowly... Then DH comes back and we watch movies or just hang out. If we're somewhere we can walk we stay out a little later than normal and sometimes the kids will nap in the stroller so we aren't forced to go to sleep by 8pm.
