Natural Birth

Getting real scar tissue

So. I'm almost 10 weeks pp and was cleared for sex at my 6 week appt. But, I haven't been able to actually manage it thanks to scar tissue from two second degree tears. Lube and relaxing just aren't helping. We are making some progress, but sex just isn't in the cards for a while it seems.

Anyone had any luck with natural remedies or does it just take this long to get back into the swing of things?

Re: Getting real scar tissue

  • I ended up talking with my OB and she prescribed an estrogen cream to help. It did help some but time helped a lot too, that and lots of coconut oil lube. Good luck!

  • Honestly time is the only thing that helped me. We didn't dtd until about 12 weeks PP. It wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. Now it is much better and while it is certainly uncomfortable at times we are able to work with it.

  • Honestly, time and taking it slow really helped.  I had a second degree internal tear.  It took forever to heal and I was not cleared for sex until 9 weeks. I was so scared the first few times and it was very painful.  I highly recommend having a glass of wine first to help you relax.  In my experience being tense only made things worse.  I also recommend lots and lots of lube, especially if you are BF as it tends to make you drier. It took me several months to get used to sex again.  It will get better and you will feel normal again down there.
  • I had a rough go after my first birth, an intervention filled induction.  One of the interventions was an episiotomy plus I had quite a bit of internal tearing since my toddler rotated as I was pushing.  I ended up developing a granuloma (extra tissue my body developed around the sutures) because my body tried to reject the sutures.  It took five silver nitrate treatments to dissolve (more like burn) away the extra tissue.  It was not at all comfortable but definitely necessary in the long run.  I had other issues besides that but it's something to talk to your OB about.
