8 months PP not healed

Hi! I am 8 months PP and I am still not healed. I cry when searching for answers because it turns up comments like "I waited 8 weeks to feel normal again!" Or "7 weeks and still a little sore!" And I think no one can even imagine! I know it's more unusual. I had a second degree tear and was stitched at birth, 1 week PP and 4 months PP. I am trying to meet with a specialist this week to discuss reconstructive surgery which is the suggestion one of my OBs the one who delivered had. I've been to two other practices for second opinions. Anyone have experience with this? Any suggestions?

I'm sorry I don't have any experience or advice to offer. I've heard of women never being quite right again after tearing during delivery. I really hope you find a solution. I can't imagine the frustration.

What do you mean you are still not healed? I have a lot of scar tissue, but no more bleeding or open wounds. Sex hurts still for me (6mo PP) but everything is closed up. I had third degree tears.

Hey, though I'm at 5 months pp I get it. I was only just cleared for sex, and still have a hard time with exercise and simple things like sitting on the floor. Have any of your doctors suggested putting you on hormone therapy? I've been taking Vagifem, which is a vaginal suppository. You start with every day for 2 weeks then twice a week as long as you are breast feeding or until you get your first pp period, unless you get it will BFing then you just stop when you stop BF. I've been seeing an OBGYN who specializes in difficult cases. I had 4th degree tearing and when I first saw the doctor things didn't look very good. After 2 months on the vagifem he was VERY happy with my progress. Your body needs estrogen to heal the vaginal area and if you are BFing then your estrogen levels will be low. Good luck and hang in there. Keep asking questions and get second opinions. Sorry you are going through this.

Hi. I wanted to chime in. I'm 11 months in and still not healed, and I had an emergency C-section. It happens to a lot of women after birth. When I went to see my gyno, she said that I had something Vaginismus. I'm not so sure, though. Sex is tolerable, but it hurts a lot at first, then it feels tolerable, but not great. Needless to say, we haven't been to active since our son was born. I'm hoping that when I stop breastfeeding, things will go back to normal. My gyno also prescribed estrogen cream, but I didn't want to take it. It was messy and gross. I'm just gonna wait and see. Read about vaginismus here.

I am so sorry you are going through this too; it is frustrating to hear seemingly everyone say they are completely back to normal. I am also 8 months PP and still having issues with sex hurting...a lot. My OB said I have a significant amount of scar tissue from a couple of the stitches (I had 3rd degree tearing). He suggested reconstructive surgery at my 8 week PP visit. I am hoping that with time it will get better. I've also heard than things get back to normal more after you stop bf. My plan right now is to wait until DD is weaned and see how things are. I would go for a second opinion if I had the option but right now I can't.

Sorry! Should have been more clear! I am still torn, there is still a small open wound. So sex isn't even in my mind. Even when the drs look at it I almost sometimes do cry! Thanks for the support and suggestions! I am BFing still and have estrogen cream
But don't want to use it as it does get into breast milk!

I'm 6 months pp and have an appt later this week to discuss reconstruction. I had 2nd degree tears (2 external, 1 internal), and they all healed by about 7 weeks, but healed too tightly. I had to wait til 6 months to see if it would remodel on its own-it didnt. Sex is completely impossible and the scar tissue is painful to the touch. An open wound at this point must be so frustrating for you!!

Hey, if you are worried about the cream ask your doctor about vagifem. It's a small suppository. It works locally inside the vagina and doesn't transmit any higher level of estrogen into your breast milk then it would if AF has returned, so basically it's fine. It is neither messy nor gross. It has made a huge difference for me. As a point of reference my scar goes approximately 4 inches inside my body and my doctor saw significant improvement after 2 months of using it. The first time the doctor checked me I almost lost it and punched her. Good luck.
