Bath time freak out?

I started bathing DS in the bathtub on a regular basis right about when he turned one. Before that, I would bathe him in his baby bathtub over the sink and occasionally in the regular tub. He always enjoyed bath time and did so for about the first few days of regular tub use. Then one day, about a week or so ago, he started freaking out. Cried the entire time and every time since. Sometimes screaming. I tried distracting him with toys. Didn't work. I know the water temperature was just fine. He stops crying the minute he's removed. Anyone else's LO do this? I don't know if it's an age thing or if something else is wrong.

  • We haven't had this experience but obviously something triggered a fear. My only suggestion might be for you to jump in with him a few times or taking him to the pool, see if he can learn to relax in the water. GL!

  • Just because the temp is "fine" doesn't mean it's where he likes it. That's what the issue was for DS1. He wanted it more on the hot end still within the safe temp range obviously.

  • My son LOVES his baths--he will play until the water is so cold he's shivering.  Until last night.  For some reason last night he screamed the minute I set him in the tub and he climbed out onto me.  He flat out refused to stay in the tub.  He's got an ear infection so I know he's not feeling well and I let it slide, but I'm hoping it was a one-time thing.  I've heard it can be a phase though.....

  • Our DD had about a week of this same behavior right around her first birthday while we were at my parents' house...she freaked out for about a week and then was fine again. She was teething at the time and had a little diaper rash so I thought it might have just been uncomfortable for her to sit maybe...needless to say, she outgrew whatever it was! GL!
