VBAC

Anyone planning hbac?

Just curious if anyone else is planning a home birth vbac? I am doing this time with some amazing midwives that I found because hospital won't do them at all and other 2 hospitals (about a half hour out of state) say they do but have very low success rates 1-2%.  I am so happy with my choice right now because I am having such an amazing experience with my new midwives, but I am also just going into 2nd trimester so I am staying aware that things don't always go the way I plan.  My son was a csection due to failure to progress and I felt horrible about my entire hospital experience. I was so sad about it for a while, but now I am just using it as motivation to do this at home. I was fully dilated when they did the csection according to the hospital reports but they didn't tell me that. I am just wondering if anyone has done this successfully at home or is planning to. If you tried at home unsuccessfully, no offense, but please don't share.  I know that it doesn't always work out but I also know these midwives are the best chance I have of a natural birth and healing from the emotional pain of my csection. Thanks for listening!

Re: Anyone planning hbac?

  • I'm planning my second HBAC for sept and can't wait. I'll pm you my birth story from my first HBAC if you're interested.

  • I did. I got a csection with my first after 16 hours of natural labour, including three hours of pushing. I had an hbac with my second in a very fast and uncomplicated labour, just two hours from first contraction to birth, over half of which was pushing. Good luck!

That is so funny you say this, because my first birth was VERY similar in timing (17 hours, unmedicated, but I did push less though, you go mama) but my HBAC was two hours long, it surprised and delighted me!  It was an hour of labor, and an hour of pushing. I am so eager to see how long this next labor is in September. Pushing will most likely be shorter.

  • Thanks for everyone's comments. I would love to hear you HBAC story. Not sure how to pm on here though..lol.
  • We are still working on getting pg but I'm seriously considering a HBAC for our second.  My OB is no longer delivering babies and though his c/s rate was high it was skewed because he was a back up for the HB MW who is my acupuncturist.  DD was a c/s after 20 hours of labor and 1 hour of pushing, she was a forehead presentation and just wasn't coming out.  Since my OB's hospital closed their mat ward and he isn't delivering anymore I really feel like in our area HB is my best chance.  We'll see when we're actually pg if I can get DH on board.  Good luck.
