Parenting after a Loss

bringing baby to the movies?

DH wants me to go to the movie theatre with him but I'm not sure if it is going to work out with LO. I want to go. We haven't done anything like that since before E was born but I'm thinking it would be better if I stayed home with her. The only way I can think of bringing her is if she falls asleep in the car seat on the way there and stays asleep. I usually carry her though in a pouch while out and bout so she is not the biggest fan of the car seat, Any suggestions?

We take DD to the movies all the time! Here's the usual routine: get there about 20 mins ahead, one person wears her and feeds her while saving seats, the other gets refreshments, she finishes eating about five minutes before the trailers start (in the k'tan/bjorn/whatev), and she stays asleep throughout the movie! We always pick seats on the end near the exit, just in case, and I have had to get up and walk the exit aisle behind the wall for a few mins, but overall, it's gone really well! This last time she was even awake for the last 30 mins, but was quiet and happy as a clam. We've notice that she's used to the whole routine, since we've been doing it every few weeks since she was tiny.

The biggest thing is to go when you know she's ready to eat and nap! Oh, and if you can, go during a less busy time, and to a non-brand new release. GL if you try!

I am going to print this out and keep it! Been wanting to go to the movies with DH since B was born, but he doesn't think it can be done with B with us! Thanks, Mork!

  • I wouldn't but I have a high maintenance baby who doesn't nap well and requires almost constant interaction. I'd hate to spend that much on a movie only to end up in the lobby with a crying baby, but our theater does have mommy friendly movies with quieter sound and changing tables in the theater etc, I may consider one of those at some point but we usually just wait for movies to come out on Redbox so we can pause if necessary or wait until after bed time. I think going out to a movie will be on our list of things to do next time we're visiting family in California and SIL can watch DD.

Anytime! So far it has worked really well. The couple of times she's begun to stir we've been able to get up and walk behind the wall. It settles her down without getting to the point of crying or screaming. We don't like others' kids disturbing our movies or dinners, so we won't let our kid disturb anyone elses'. We'd leave way before we'd let her disturb others. But so far our movie during nap time has worked wonderfully, even though we have have a high needs baby who needs constant input/interaction. We figure the more we go out and practice, the better she'll be at going out throughout her life. But we always keep the backup plan of leaving, if needed.

I'm right there with you... except x2 Smile Plus I hate when kids interrupt movies and I'd probably spend the whole time in fear that I'd be that person. We can barely watch a movie in our living room without them interrupting us.

That's awesome that your theatre has those Mommy movies. I've never heard of that. Changing tables in the theatre?  So cool!

Me three. I think the loud stereo sounds would bother him...sometimes they get really loud.  That is awesome about the moms theatre!!!
