Weaning worry

I get anxious about all new things so this isn't surprising but I'm anxious about weaning. I EP and my ds has never had formula. He isn't crazy about food like some kids. He eats it but is picky and still doesn't eat off our plate as he acts like its terrible when I try.

But i am down to three pumps a day and I'm using my freezer stash. I plan to be done pumping in the next few weeks and onve my freezer atash is gone he will start WCM. He will be about one if not even later as I have about 30 days of BM frozen. I'm just worried because what if he doesn't like it? Then I will have a kid who doesn't eat much and doesn't drink his milk. Ugg. Tell me I'm anxious for nothing please!

  • You won't know till toy try. Some kids don't like cows milk. That's why there's goat, almond, coconut and rice. Its only for the fat anyway. If he doesn't like it allot add more fats to his diet. Avocado, dairy, eggs.

  • I'm nervous about weaning too, even though it's a year from now. I'm also nervous when he turns a year old, cutting back on the nursing. Ideally I would want him down to 3 to 5 times, down from 6 to 8 times.

He has days where he won't eat any solid food, so I have the same worry as you; that he won't get enough. Ugh! It's so much easier just to keep them on breastmilk!

  • All new things are worrisome but just know that you will all come out on top and it will soon be a memory. DD was FF and transitioning to milk was pretty easy. Over the last month before her 1st bday I added in a bit of WCM into her formula bottle until it was full of WCM. Since she was already on bottles it was a seamless transition. My worry is since DS is EBF and only occasionally takes bottles when we're out or if DH feeds him (he takes them well though) it'll be harder to have him take it since he barely gets any water out of his sippy. He's gotten better at it, but it's more or less a chew toy. But, I am confident it will all be ok. Good luck!!!

  • I would say wait to wean until you know he's comfortable with WCM.  Like if he takes it fine the first time then go for the weaning no worries because even if he doesn't eat much solids, he's getting calories with the WCM.
