moving to ATL with a newborn and a 20month old...need info!

Hey everyone!

I am currently living in Colorado, after having spent the last two years in the Dominican Republic.  I will be moving to the Atlanta area in September with a newborn (3-5 weeks old) and a 20 month old.  My husband and I live in Brookhaven pre kiddos and we loved it, but we are looking for better, more affordable housing outside the city now.  Does anyone have any suggestions for where to live?  We have looked into Smyrna, Marrietta, Powder Springs....in that area.  We love to walk places, go to the park, be active in sports and have non chain shops and restaurants to frequent....too much to ask?

Also, know of any great MOPS programs, free mother's day out, or other baby and child activities in these areas?  Send me all your info, the good an the bad!

Thank you so much!

  • We live in Smyrna and highly recommend it. It is close enough to Atlanta while still maintaining a community feel with events festivals at Smyrna Market Village, food trucks on Tuesday nights at TaylorBrawner park, and 2 different farmers markets Tuesday and Saturday. If you need a realtor, let me know, ours was awesome!

  • Historic downtown Roswell offers everything you are looking for outside of the city.  I was 100% an intown-only girl until we moved to downtown Roswell about 6 months ago.  We can walk to tons of fantastic restaurants, art galleries, and boutiques, as well as my hair salon, chiro, vet, dry cleaners, and pet food store.  We are across the street from an 80 acre park that has a pool, playgrounds, ball fields, walking trails etc. as well as offers TONS of recreation classes for kids and adults.  My daughter just finished swim class and is now attending gymnastics camp (she is 2.5yo). There are monthly festivals and art/music events in downtown as well that we have really enjoyed and are totally family friendly.

We really love it and it is SO kid/family focused. The schools are some of the best in the state.  It takes me about 20ish minutes to get into Buckhead with no traffic, but if you plan to work in town and would have to go during rush hour, that is a PITA.

I'm a real estate agent and work extensively both in town as well as the northern suburbs (including Smyrna/Mableton), so if you have any questions about various areas, feel free to email me!  alix . nadi at gmail . com

  • Smyrna and Vinings are probably yor best bet for places outside the city with more diversity. Most metro Atlanta areas are just as suburban as the next and filled with chain stores. Vinings has an adorable downtown area with tons of little shops! Good luck with the move!
