T and P for a friend

My friend is due with her son August 4th and in Saturday her water broke. She's going to have him via csection tomorrow morning and I'm so nervous for them. I don't want to bother her but I'm curious about why this happens? Does anyone have experience with this? Will you keep her and her baby, in your thoughts? I'm so worried about them!

Re: T and P for a friend

  • Sending up thoughts and prayers for your friend. A good friend of mine had her twins at 32 weeks and while they had an extensive 4 week NICU stay, they are both healthy and developing beautifully.

  • So he's about five weeks early? My friend was due in September and had her son August 2, last year. He was five weeks early and you would never know at this point. He is hitting all his milestones and even some he hits early. He's huge! He's a beast, almost as big as Howell. She had him because her water broke too. He did have a week of NICU time but NO complications once he came home. FX your friend has as easy a time of it.

Then and now. How did my boy get so big?

This is so comforting to hear. We have a great nicu near us so I'm confident in them. It's just so scary to think about how little he is and how suddenly this is all happening for them.

  • A girl I went to HS with had her DD at 24 weeks. She was on hospital bedrest for a month and a half beforehand because her cervix was open. She was in the NICU, then PCU, until her 37 week mark. She was 1.5 pounds when she was born and she's healthy, thriving, and home.

Philly's DS just turned one and he was due in August...and well, have you seen the kid? He turned out just fine and cute as ever.

  • My friend recently had her son in May and wasn't due till late July. It was the same situation as your friend, since her water broke. He was in the NICU until Father's Day and is now a happy and healthy little guy! Sending best wishes to your friend and her little one!

  • T&P to your friend.

Logan was six weeks early in 2006, and we were in the NICU for only one week. He had some breathing issues, jaundice, he came home with a bili-blanket , and poor suck reflex. Those are all pretty common/standard issues for a preemie, and in general boys are further behind girls in lung development. Logan is now the biggest kid in his class and perfectly normal. Well, as normal as a six year old boy can be!

  • Thanks, everyone! I really was encouraged reading your replies...

They texted this morning and all is well!! He was actually 5 pounds and 1 ounce - so bigger than I was expecting. He will be in the NICU for two weeks and she was going to pump right after we spoke, so so happy that everything went well!!
