How do you answer

"So what are you hoping for?"

I like to tell them something outlandish.  Like a raptor. Or a puppy.  Really?  A healthy baby.  The rest is just bonus for me!

Re: How do you answer

  • I just say I really don't have a preference or my heart isn't really set on anything I just want a healthy baby :]

  • With my first I was asked "what kind of baby are you having?" Really?! What kind? People are so dumb.

I choose a different animal each time. Porcupine, penguin, velociraptor, panda, etc lol

I do the exact same thing haha.

  • My Mil asked me this question. My response with a huge smile was A hemorrhoid free pregnancy.

  • At least they ask my mother wants baby number two to be a girl and doesn't care that DH and I would actually like another boy. She texts me girl names all the time and has said on several occasions that she's praying for a girl. Personally I would love a velociraptor and so would DS

I am most definitely using this when someone annoying asks me!! Haha!

  • What an invasive question.

Ooh, I'm hoping for a velociraptor, too! Think of the mad attention we'd get!

  • Say you're hoping to win the lotto, cause having a baby can get pricy!
  • I don't. One of the conveniences of only telling people after the CVS results is we get to avoid this asinine question.
  • I dunno, this question personally doesn't bother me.  Many people DO have a preference, so I totally understand the reasoning behind people asking.  I honestly don't have a preference (this is our first, btw), so that's usually what I say.  To me it's pretty easy, if you have a preference, say it (if you feel like it) & if you don't, say that you don't, or that you'll be happy with either.
  • After experiencing a loss, my answers are:

"I hope I'm growing a healthy baby that will be born full term."

"A healthy baby to bring home"

And then when they ask what sex I want. I say that I would like another girl but I'm not wishing/hoping for one.

This baby can just focus on being healthy, not what's between the legs.

I'm hoping for a girl, so I say girl, but will be happy if the baby is healthy either way.

I have 2 boys so we don't even get the 'want are you hoping for' question.  We get, 'well of course you want a girl, right?'.  So annoying. I love my boys and would gladly take another.  A girl is fine too but I hate how people assume that we need a girl to be a complete family.

  • If I think a mention about God won't offend the asker, I'll say something like, "No preference.  I'm just excited to see what God wants us to have a boy or a girl and how that will change our family's dynamic."  And that's the truth. Smile

    Our family is complete!

  • Well, before we knew for sure I told them what I wanted. After we found out, I tell them what we're having. Not worth making up some crazy line IMO.
  • I tell them "a kindhearted genius, because this kid is going to need private school scholarships!"

I personally go back and forth on my preferred sex, because there are definitely advantages to both. For the most part, though, I just want a baby who is healthy, smart, and grows to be kind.

I tell them "a girl".  I think it's totally normal to want one gender over the other.
