TTC after 35

Charting temps & using OPK's (with update)

This is my first month doing both and I feel like I am getting conflicting info but I am new at this so maybe it is me.  I bought an expensive OPK, and you get flashing smiley faces on the days of high fertility, and a solid smiley on peak fertility, or ovulation day.  So on CD9, I had my lowest temp and a flashing smiley face.  On CD 10 and 11 my temps are rising, but I am still getting the flashing smiley and have not gotten the solid smiley yet.

So according to my temps, I have likely O'd, but according to my OPK's I have not O'd yet.  Am I correct that these are not agreeing with each other?  Anyone else have this?

With these tests, it says to only test with FMU so I am only doing one test a day.

Re: Charting temps & using OPK's (with update)

  • Yes, that is how I would interpret that situation.  Have your temps continued to stay high?  Did you finally get the solid smiley face?  Well, either way....I hope you were BDing with your hubby on CD9-whenever you got the solid face or 3-4 days after the higher temps.

I know, sometimes you will get different results from these TTC tools.  Are you using Fertility Friend to enter your temps and store other info?  If not, do so.  It is a great resource to have, it is free.  It will help you find your fertility window, so that will help pinpoint your best chances to get pregnant.

You might have a short LH surge, so if, I were you, I would get the Wondfo OPK's or even the dollar store one work well, which are pretty cheap and test twice a day to ensure that you are not missing it.  Just to find out where you are....

After three months of recording your findings, fertility friend will analyze and create an average for your system.  That will help you start to figure out your system and best times to BD.

Hope this help and sorry, if you already knew all this....Best of Luck to you!

  • Thanks for the advice. Yes I am using FF, in conjunction with the OPK. We did BD so we should be covered I am just a little confused about these results. I usually use the dollar tree tests so I can test as much as I want but they were completely sold out when I went the other day so I ended up buying this stupid 40 test which is just annoying me now. This is my first month regularly tracking my temps I tried a few months ago but keep forgetting to take it.

  • Sounds like you are covered.  I would have been confused as to why the temps were going up but you weren't getting a solid happy face, too.  Did FF tell you that you Oed?  What day?  Well, glad that you didn't wait for the solid face to show up...Lol.  Have you ever gotten a positive OPK, while doing a second test in afternoon or night?

Well, best of luck to you in your 2ww.....Fx'ed that you get you BFP!  ;)

  • FF has not said I O'd eitherthis is my first month being really good about charting so I am not 100 sure what I am doing. I did a test in the afternoon with the one dollar store test I had left the other day and it was a negative. I am only on CD11 so it is possible I have not yet O'd. DH heads out of town for work tomorrow morning so if I get the solid smiley midweek I will be bummed.

ETA: Oops should have said I am on CD 12 above

  • Hey Sparky,

Don't be bummed.  Sperm can live for 5 days, so the more that you BD'ed and make sure to get one in right before he leaves in the morning or the night before, if you can, if not don't worry, you should be fine...Lol,

.How many days have you been at higher temps?  3-4 days?  If so, FF should set that as your O day....I would have to see your chart to understand, but sounds like you should be fine and that you are around your fertility window.

Best of luck and keep us posted.....

  • So I had a temperature dip last night, and finally got a solid Smile this morning.  We BD'd last night so hopefully I should be covered because DH left early this am.  But I ended up with 4 days of flashing smileys before I finally got the solid one, and my temps were up and down, so maybe my body just takes longer to gear up to O.  I am 40+ so...

  • I think that you got yourself covered on this one.  Good Job!  Even though it was a bit confusing and drawn out for you, I have had those days on occasions, myself.  I think you will have a great chance of making a baby!  :)  Lol...

    I am a 40+, too.....so, I know what you mean.....

Wishing you the best!  Keep us posted on how it goes.... ;)
