  • I agree, watch the videos first.  Then visit sites and read.  Sites like Green Mountain Diapers have links that say "See what this looks like on a baby"  which is helpful too.

I really do think you're going to have to try it out for yourself.  Most people seem to really love pockets which you stuff with inserts, because you can adjust absorbancy, although I personally like a combination of fitteds with covers and All in ones. Mostly for laundry reasons on the fitteds.  They are so easy to take care of and you need less covers.  So you can potentially save some money.

You have to think about how much money you want to spend and then square with the question of buying used.  For me personally that was a big hurdle.  At first I was like "No way, I'll but new"  I also made the mistake of buying a lot without trying.  So now I have all pockets...which I like, but I really want fitteds and covers.  I also spent more money than I should have.  In the end I think I would buy covers used and fitteds news.  But all things you should think about before you take the leap.

    Good luck!

  • You may want to look into a diaper trial. That way you can test out some different things without the commitment.

  • I started when my LO was about 5 months old as well.  I started out by lurking on this board and reading the FAQ's.  I watched a lot of videos on youtube about cloth diaper topics.  You just need to research the different options and bite the bullet and try one or two of a kind you think you will like.

My personal favorites are Kawaii pockets because they are very affordable and have plenty of colors and prints.

  • I would dive in to all the videos on You Tube.  Those helped me a lot!  Once you figure out the different types of cloth diapers a lot of the vocabulary starts to make a lot more sense.

Also, you could do a diaper trial to try out different types and see what fits good on your LO and what works best for your lifestyle/budget.  You can borrow them for two weeks and either buy them or send them back!  :)

My advice would be not to worry too much.  There are a lot of people out there saying things like, "Don't ever do THIS... or you'll ruin your diapers!"  I've broken a lot of the rules and we've still come out okay... so if you're worried about messing something up there's usually a way to fix it!  I think all the "rules" intimidate/scare off newcomers and it's really not as cut-and-dry as people make it sound.
