Blood in diaper

My son had three tiny dots of blood in his dirty diaper about three hours ago. He had not gone since last night. I called the dr and she said to keep watching and if it gets worse possibly go to hospital or if it continues we can bring him in on Monday. She said it could be from straining. He just had a tiny dirty diaper with another little spot.. Has anyone had anything like this happen?

Re: Blood in diaper

  • We had this a few times with DS1, and it scared me. We went to the ER and had a few followups with pediatrician. I don't know the exact cause but I cut back on dairy for awhile. It improved after a few weeks and I started adding dairy back in.

While its alarming, my understanding is that it usually isn't something serious, and is fairly common.

  • I have consumed alot of dairy over the last week... I am going to cut it out and see what happens. Thank you.. I needed to hear that others have dealt with this and their little one's are ok

  • We had this 3x this month. The pediatrician and urologist tested his urine and found nothing abnormal. He's not straining or in pain, and it was just a couple tiny dots that may or may not have actually been blood.. It was more of a pinkish color. Both said to keep an eye on it but at this time it's nothing to be concerned about.

  • I would definitely cut out dairy if you're BFing. That's one of the symptoms of food intolerance or allergy.
