The hardest thing to register for by FAR has been the baby monitor. I'm thinking about going with one of the Motorola models since they seem to have the best reviews. There are so many options and features it's really confusing. I want one that comes with a dedicated video monitor, but could also possibly be used with an iphone, ipad or droid phone. Does that exist? Does anyone use the wifi function to login and watch while away from home? Or do the grandparents ever login to watch? Is the reception or streaming capability decent? Or not worth the extra $80-$100. If there are things that you love or hate about your monitor please post! Thanks!
Re: anyone actually use the "wi-fi" function for monitors?
I am not aware of any of the motorola monitors having a log in/streaming function for phones or other external devices. The wireless technology in these monitors simply refers to the fact that the camera and the parent console communicate without any cables, but they are not compatible with other devices. We have the 3.5" model.
You might want to look into something like a security camera system for what you are describing.

This is the wifi motorola one I was referring to. It looks like you access the video from an app, but that just doesn't seem reliable enough to me. I want something with a dedicated monitor.

Oh ok, thanks for the link. It seems really pricey for just a camera and still no dedicated monitor console other than relying on an iphone or other device to monitor.
Amazon seems to offer a lot more reviews. Here's one that compares this product to the much cheaper Foscam camera. If you or your SO is computer/gadget savvy, I'd go for the Foscam camera.

While we considered doing the camera/ iphone monitor in the beginning, it was just so much easier to have a conventional dedicated monitor, especially at night. No menu screens, log ins or apps to mess with, no worries about keeping the phone on all the time, no issues with signals or encryption or delay.
