FFers Bottle questions

For one, how many bottles is your LO taking a day now and has that increased or decreased in comparison to how many solids meals they are getting each day?

DS is FF and I think we are finally down to 4 bottles, sometimes 5, about 25 oz average now [down from his whopping 42ish a few weeks ago]. He has been steadily getting 3 meals a day now for at least the past month.

For two, what times are those last bottles and meals? Has your LO changed how they STTN if the last bottle or meal isn't within 30 mins of bedtime?

I ask because I'm trying to figure out if I am trying to squeeze a snack bottle in when I shouldn't. Sometimes the snack bottle happens at 4, dinner at 6 and night bottle at 7ish. Sometimes the snack bottle is at 7:30 and the last big bottle he gets was back at 4 with dinner still being at 6. I'm glad we switched to target formula because I've wasted a lot the past week or so as he's dropping his daily oz I take trying I figure out when and how much he's really hungry.

For three, are you using sippys for any of your bottle feedings?

I've tried numerous sippys and failed with all but the nuk learner cup. Some days he will drink from it, some days he refuses. He still won't hold it and I'm getting nervous that I will have to bottle feed him till kindergarten.

Thank you for your time in filling out this survey. Your answers will be used for a study of formula feeding and the transition to cups.................. Lol jk

Re: FFers Bottle questions

  • J gets 3 7oz bottles, sometimes only 2 ifbhe wakes up late. 1 or 2 of those are in his sippy. At his snack time I sometimes offer 3oz of formula. At every solid meal, or snack he gets the sippy with water

  • Mine still are offered 4 bottles of 32 ounces of formula along with meals. My son drinks it, my daughter doesn't. My ped said it has all the nutrients they need to grow. I'm trying the sippy cups for lunch and dinner feeding, but the bed time feeding is a bottle as is breakfast. I recommend the LOLLACUPS they have a weighted straw. I ordered them from Amazon and my kids struggled to at first but have had success with the straw.
  • For part of May and most of June, Charlotte was down to five 4-6 ounce bottles, so hovering between 20-30 ounces per day.

For the past few days, she is back to five 8 ounce bottles.  Sometimes there is an afternoon snack bottle around lunch, too!  I think we are growth spurting, because her sleep was terrible earlier this week and then she started eating a TON, both bottles and solids.

No formula in sippies yet, just water at meals, but she likes them and is adept at holding and drinking from them.

We do three solids meals, but she doesn't eat much at breakfast.  She also takes two bottles in the AM (when she gets up at 7:00 and then at 10:00 before her nap).  I try not to let her fill up on formula before breakfast too much, but she's hungry after STTN!

  • Typically 4 bottles 6 to 8oz depending on his mood. He has 3 meals of solids. Sometimes I'll give him puffs in between feedings.

  • DD has 4 bottles a day, 5 to 7oz each. We're working on cutting out the MOTN feeding so sometimes she gets 2 to 3oz overnight. She also has three meals and a snack everyday.

Her afternoon bottle is around 230, then bedtime bottle around 730. It is usually within 30 min of when she goes to bed. But last night she was way tired at dinner so we took her to her room for bedtime and she was too full to touch her bottle. STTN. I'm mystified. Maybe she doesn't need that bedtime bottle.

And no, we are doing water only from sippys. She doesn't ingest enough yet for me to be comfortable with putting her formula in there.
