Thx for earlier replies. Issue is that new ikea cribs have mattress base made from fiber board not solid wood slats and I wonder how durable /safe that is for a active toddler. Does anyone have a newer crib?
We have an idea crib and we've never had an issue but if I could do it again I probably wouldn't buy it. I forget which one we have but it has solid panels on each end that are flimsy and when he kicks them or hits his head in the night it's really loud. It's a reverberating echo sound like he's hitting something hollow. We share a wall but still. It's annoying to be woken up out of a dead sleep.
I have both, older and newer style of gulliver crib. Both are super sturdy, my toddlers love jumping on them. The new crib does has support slats and a fiberboard base. The older crib has more slats and no fiberboard base. I wish that they did not change the design, I don't like the off gassing of the fiberboard, but I let it air out for months outside. I can see that if the fiberboard got wet and wasn't allowed to dry, that it could mildew, but I haven't had that problem. [i live near the beach, where it is fairly hot and humid.]
I have two of the new style Gulliver crib, fiberboard with wood support slats. They Have help up really well to our kids jumping and playing in them before naps and bedtime. I wouldn't think twice about buying the same cribs again.
IVF #1 was a success! Harrison and Brooke born at 37 weeks. 6lbs8oz and 6lbs11oz. Loving life as a MoM.
We have the Sniglar crib, the cheapest one that is a plain wood color. It was bought in early 2012. The piece that holds up the mattress is a thick solid rectangle of, I'm guessing, particle board.
I feel pretty confident in the quality. We used to have the crib "side-car'ed" next to our bed and I have crawled into it a few times to help my daughter get to sleep! I weight about 115. If it can handle me I'm sure it will handle a toddler.
