I am 10 weeks pregnant today 6/22/13. I had a check-up yesterday and my Doctor is going to send me to a Doctor who specializes in high risk pregnancies, but wont happen for a while longer yet. Possible in a week or so. due to a previous PE (Pulmonary Embolism) two weeks post postpartum after I gave birth to my Son in December 2010. What are my chances developing one WHILE I am pregnant, cause I am scared out of my mind. That was the most frightening experience I have ever had. It haunts me everyday, gets my anxiety going. Please give me some piece of mind.

I can't tell you the likelihood of developing a PE while pregnant, but if the reason you developed one before was due to a condition that's effected by hormonal fluctuations, then it's likely that you will be prescribed an anti-coagulant such as lovenox, heparin, or possibly baby aspirin as a preventative measure.
There are quite a few of us on here that have blood clotting issues, and take medications to prevent clots. These medications are safe during pregnancy. Because of your history you will likely be monitored by a specialist (Maternal Fetal Medicine doctor, or MFM, or some other sort of HR OB) every month or so to make sure there are no signs of clots forming. You will likely continue to see your regular OB on a "regular" pregnancy schedule.
Fingers crossed that your appointment goes well with the specialist, and feel free to check in to our weekly "Lovenox Ladies" thread, which is usually posted on Wednesday or Thursday, if you have any questions or just need support. H&H9 to you & your LO!
