To H, or not to H

So we are pretty set on the name Norah, and I can't decide which spelling to go with. My mom keeps suggesting Nora, but I almost feel as though the name looks incomplete without the H at the end. Thoughts?

Re: To H, or not to H

  • I vote for Norah :)
  • I like the h.

I feel like it looks incomplete otherwise too.

  • I prefer Norah as a standalone and Nora as nn (for Eleanor or whatever)
  • I think it's a nice name and both spellings are fine. But I personally prefer Nora. I like Sara instead of Sarah too... So that's just my style I guess.

  • I am a "Sarah" and yet I prefer the look of Nora over Norah. Not sure why. Perhaps because "Norah" looks strikingly like "Noah" at first glance.

I love Nora - it looks so pretty. The H seems so unnecessary and, like a PP said, at a glance it looks like Noah.

    I prefer Nora.
  • I agree with you. It looks incomplete without the H. It isn't wrong, but certainly looks better with the h, IMO.
  • I prefer the H, obviously! I think it looks incomplete without it. I also prefer 'ie' spellings over y spellings Katie vs Katy, Nellie vs Nelly.

Me too. I'm a Sarah, but I have a Nora. It's short for Elinor.

I asked this just the other day. It seemed like a pretty even split for Nora vs Norah. But I think after reading more and more about how popular this name is getting we are setting it aside for now
  • I prefer Nora.

  • Nora is in our top 2 and we would go with no H. I prefer it that way, but obviously this seems pretty split. :)

I don't have a strong opinion either way, but I am of the opinion that your mother got to spell your name the way she wanted, so you could get to spell your child's name the way you want.

As long as you don't add any superfluous "y"s.
