Funny Nesting Story

Last night, DH told me one of his co-workers warned him about a nesting mama.

His coworker said his wife went crazy with cleaning out the house a couple weeks before she gave birth. She was throwing away everything--like a massive purge.

Apparently, the coworker had been stashing cash in a shoe box in the kitchen. His 9 mos. pregnant wife threw the shoe box away on her nesting spree.

His coworker was raised by depression-era parents and habitually kept cash hidden around the home. That shoe box had about $4000 in it!

Moral of the story: for all the nesting mamas, be careful what you throw away.

  • That is EXACTLY why DH and I agreed on a place to store cash. No "oops"es.

    That is just incredible.

I guess I'm weird, but I'd be pretty pissed if I found out MH was hiding 4000 from me. Of course it's good to save money, but hiding it from me? No.

To be fair, they are very wealthy, so I think that $4K to them would be like $40 to us.

BUT I did tell DH "If you've got that much money hiding around here, you need to tell me now!!" Sadly, he didn't

  • This reminds me of a funny Sopranos scene (RIP Tony!) where Carmela is wondering if Tony hides money and he doesn't want to tell her-- I think that's the lead up-- and tells her to "Check the vents!" in that typically "Tony" way over his nightly ice cream sundae. It makes my DH and I laugh, and he quotes the line all the time! I definitely won't toss any shoe boxes without looking.

right!! That would drive me crazy knowing I did that!
  • Oh no!!  DH has been known to do that...a trait inherited from his mother via his grandfather (who has thousands stashed around their house).  I make sure I go through EVERYTHING before throwing it out.

  • Oh I would cry...that's totally something DH would do. When we were in high school, he was able to buy a lap top with the spare change he had in his bedroom...over 1000 bucks.

  • Not funny!  I don't understand why people store cash in their house.  I have had large amounts of cash before, especially as a cocktail waitress, but only because I hadn't made it to the bank yet.

I guess my toddler must be nesting because I found $140 in my trash today.  Her trash obsession is no longer funny!!  She has been throwing away toys and shoes for a week.

  • Maybe she did look and kept it, then threw the box away to teach him a lesson about hiding cash in the house. That would be a funny nesting story, haha.
