Saturday Bed Rest Check In

Hi Ladies

How'd we hold up last night?

My head hurts and I had to deal with whiny sick children at 1am which is no fun just really tired and wanting some sleep

Re: Saturday Bed Rest Check In

  • I wonder if we could try to put a more positive spin on these check ins...  I know bed rest is really tough, but I often find myself not checking in b/c the initial post is always a complaint.  My mom always had a rule that for every complaint, we needed 3 positives which I try to use daily as well.

I slept pretty well last nite and woke up to birds chirping :).  Today, my sister is out for a bit (she's here helping out til midweek) and then DH is going to see the new Superman movie.  I had an uneventful (slightly annoying, but no big deal) appt yesterday.  Going out was pretty exhausting!

8 more days til 34w, 15 more days til 35!  I'm amazed to have come so far :)

I wouldn't blame aiche - she is having a rough time and we are all here for support and to support each other. Some days all I have are complaints too. But one thing we could do to make it more positive/fun is add a question of the day. E.g. what is the best book you've read lately? what are your "plans" for the weekend? What is your next goal? Either the initial poster or an early responder could post the question...

  • Hey everyone and happy Saturday!

Last night I slept relatively well even though I had several wake up and pee moments. Something about drinking 3+ liters of water a day that makes you have to go to the bathroom.. hehe. Although I wasn't in the hospital long, it was nice to wake up next to my husband and have some snuggle time before he got up to start his weekend chores. The house is a crazy mess, but that should only last 2 more days. Tomorrow will be a treat for me because I am going to my Grandmother's house. My Mom is one of 16 so it will be nice to see so many people. I'm also getting a new phone!! Goodbye ANDROID, hello iPhone!

My husband is at the grocery store today (uh oh!) and just sent me a picture of the stash of motorized scooters they have. Dang it, I should have gone!! :)

Monday is appointment day and I am interested to see if these annoying contractions have made any changes to my cervix. Maybe I will even be given the OK to move a bit more. Yesterday, I got on the scale and noticed that I have lost 4 lbs which makes me nervous. I am thinking it may just be from my stressful hospital stay full of the dreaded MgSO4 load and clear liquid diet.

    Thanks for reading :)

  • OH! I forgot to add this...

Read this today and thought it was interesting.. for what it's worth.

I know everyone's situation/indication for bed rest is unique but I think studies like this may be worth pursuing.

I'm not blaming anyone, but was just pointing out a theme.  I know she's having a tough time.  We all are in our own ways.  And sometimes venting is 300% necessary.  But I think that how we react and put ourselves out there tends to impact how our days go too.  I'm all for venting, but agree with you that perhaps a QOTD or goal of the day or something to that effect would be good as well :)

  • Made it through another night without spotting. Yay! DH is taking the kiddos to our nephews birthday party today. It's about 1 1/2 hours away. I'll be by myself. It's already lonely in the bed all day, but at least someone is always here. T's and P's for everyone.
  • Good morning/afternoon ladies! 33 weeks! Can hardly wait for 34!

The town festivities got rained out this morning...I was not wishing that for everyone! Looks like it might be clearing up now...hopefully everyone can have their fun, so people can bring me some of the local treats! :D

I'll be out on the porch tonight watching the fireworks also!

Today I'm SO thankful that I'm still pregnant, that I'm not permanently "handicapped" like this, that my babies are kicking, :::although a seems more active than b, but maybe b's legs are way over there by a!:::, that I only have 6.5 days until the doctors initial goal of 34 weeks he set back when this all started, that I may have my own place by the end of the week AND I get to go to the doctor again on Thursday!!

Hope you ladies have a great Saturday and make the most of our situations!

  • For me personally, I tend to agree. I try to balance my complaints with positives.

    CNY, your progress inspires me!

Lizzy, Noooooo! Don't do it! Haha ;-) huge android & Google fan over here.
Enjoy your family time and good luck Monday!

I am sleeping well now that I'm home. My hips are super sore though. I'm trying to spend a couple of minutes sitting on the side of the bed stretching them when I return from the potty. My brother and his girlfriend are coming today and staying the night. They will be a huge help and my dachshunds love them! So, that'll give them someone to play with. My female is constantly looking at me like why are you still in the bed!?!

I haven't read the article above yet, but last night I got to thinking about PTL and irritable uterus. Maybe this doesn't make a difference but just a thought. Doctors and classes pound it into our heads to hydrate to prevent PTL. However, for me at least, having a full bladder all the time seems to make my contractions occur more often. Before I was admitted I drank well over 100oz a day and peed constantly. While in the hospital I had iv fluid along with the magnesium, as well as drank water. I didn't drink 100oz a day because I was just too sick from the mag to drink that much. Since I've been home the amount of water I drink is less than before, but I make sure my urine is still clear. *knock on wood* my contractions seems less intense and less often. With the exception of the evenings. However, they never progress to the point I need to head to L&D. I'm wondering if drinking too much could be a bad thing for those with a irritable uterus. It's probably a fine line between enough and too much. Anyway, just my two cents since I get to lie here and think/talk to myself, haha!

  • There are a lot of flaws in the "study" referred to in the article. One is that is wasn't randomly controlled. The ladies allowed to move around could have had a "short cervix" over 2 the entire time. The ladies put on BR were probably put on BR because they were extra short, therefore more likely to go into ptl anyways. BR might have bought those ladies 28 weeks! Also I have irritable uterus and get contractions when I'm not lying down, and when I am, but standing makes them worse. I'd rather avoid contractions and the chance that they could be affecting my cervix than walk around more and have more pressure and contractions. Obviously it's up to you and your doctor but for me BR is the thing that helps with contractions and helps keep gravity off my shortening cervix. People kept telling me about that study/article when it came out and I finally said this is the only thing I know to do for my babies right now and I'm holding steady so please stop. I know ladies who had bulging membranes and a dilated immeasurable cervix gain length and close back up after being on BR. One's of BR now waiting to go into labor. Too many stories of loss from the other side to make me start cleaning house. Even though I'm dying too!!!

  • What is a good novel to read I have been waiting for the library to get in some holds for me on quick and easy diabetic meals .

Today my husband is going to drop me off at a salon  so I can have my toenails clipped, I've never been to a nail salon so this will be my 1st time .

What's everyone's plan for the weekend?

  • I am 36 weeks and only have 11 days left before I get to meet my beans!  Since I am so close to the end, I am trying to get one last movie and dinner with my BF before they come.  Thank goodness movie theater seats have come such a long way.  I have to watch my movement now because my feet swell so fast, but I dont do much, so I am willing to suffer a little this one last time.  Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Last night was uneventful and I'm watching Eat Pray Love right now while DD takes a nap and DH is at work.

  • I'm doing well, just a bit wiped out. My 3 yr old normally doesn't eat much sugar but had an entire donut before visiting today. :o He made me tired just watching him lol.

I am mentally and physically preparing to go home (I haven't been given the green light yet but I'm acting "as if" ;) Physically feel good. Well, I can't turn over or get up without pains where my legs meet my body, but I am very happy to have made it far enough to have "normal" pregnancy issues. I also gained 6 lbs in the last 4 weeks and nurse said that was good. (I had not gained for a bit when I first went on bedrest.)

DH Is coming back tonight for date night (takeout and netflix). I look forward to that all week :)

Mostly I can't wait to go home.

I've been reading mostly beach reads on bedrest (Elin Hilderbrand, Marion Keyes, Diane Mott Davidson). A novel I read a while ago that I loved though was The Thirteenth Tale by Diane Setterfield.

aiche enjoy the salon visit :)

MrsCaseyK congrats on 33 weeks! It will start to feel like coasting downhill now. :)

    Enjoy outings!

  • Congrats on the milestones ladies!

I had a rough evening and night last night. The contractions were frequent and painful. I took some Tylenol and a hot bath and they seemed to slow. Another false alarm. But now I'm sore and tired today.

But on the bright side... The sun is shinning and it's finally acting like summer. And my Dr. Has given me the ok to do a little more and let labor come if its going to. It's nice to get a few things done around the house even if I tire quickly.

    Have a wonderful weekend ladies!!!

I love the "Thirteenth Tale". I have it as an unedited book on cd, but would like to have the actual book to read a million times.  I just finished reading "The Passage" by Justin Cronin.  Disturbing vampire book that is part of a trilogy.  As good as it is, not my type of book so not sure I will read the rest!

One day til I hit the 22 week mark!  Contractions increased yesterday, but so far today have not been as many.  The urge to "nest" is the worst because I can't get anything ready and my husband already does too much.  We decided to just one day at a time it.  It will all get done, eventually.  Now is when it is hardest to have family across the country, along with closest friends.  Least we have each other!!

Congratulations to everyone approaching milestones and passing them up!  Happy day to everyone!!!
