Parenting after a Loss

Mucousy baby

I can hear mucous in her nose when she's breathing and she even sneezed out a big goober yesterday, but nothing comes out with the aspirator and other than a few boogers I don't see anything. She coughs a little occasionally so I think it might be dripping down her throat a bit. No other signs that she's sick or anything. Should I be concerned, try something different or just leave her be??

Re: Mucousy baby

  • When you aspirate her nose, do you plug the opposite side as your doing it?  I didn't know to do this initially, but its makes a HUGE difference!  Good luck!

I had no clue to do this! Thanks!

Where babies are teeny it is normal for them to be congested. The smallest little boog can really block them up. I'd try saline mist then the aspirator. Sometimes DD would just sneeze everything out on her own after the saline and not need sucking. I wouldn't worry. What you're describing sounds normal.
I used some saline and got a little bit out. She sounds much better, but still a bit of ick. I'll try again later as my neighbors probably think I'm killing her based on the screams coming from my house.

DS screams like I'm murdering him, too!! I always try to rationalize with him, but its such a waste of time, hahahaha! Even now at almost 1 he screams like I'm removing his toenails or something!!

  • We have a graco nasal clear nasal aspirator and it works much better than the bulb. She hated it at first but now she doesn't even seem to mind it.
  • Nosefrida plus saline is amazing! Highly recommend it.

Do you use the nose frida? B doesn't seem to mind as much when I use that on him. He screams bloody murder when I use the bulb.
I don't know what that is. I have an electronic one and a bulb. It was more that she was fussy this morning than that she was pissed about aspirating.

  • The nosefrida is great. I was a little leery at first because it seems gross to use but it works much faster than the bulb. D hates getting his nose sucked out when he doesn't feel good so the faster the better.

This! We swear by the Nose Frida! Also, Are you using a cool mist humidifier in her room/ wherever she's sleeping? It made a big difference with B.
