New here - ? on GD and vacation

Hello all! I am in my first week with diet controlling my GD. We have an out of town beach vacation planned next month for our "babymoon". Im just curious if there are any tips and tricks to traveling with GD? I assume I will just try to order everything as close to my regular meal plans as possible when we eat out ... we do not have any food prep area in our hotel room so I might be getting creative!

  • If I am eating out, I prefer to eat at chain type restaurants that publish their nutrition information online. I look up the info and plan what I am going to eat ahead of time.

Obviously for things like breakfast, you could order eggs, bacon, sausage and toast anywhere and get close to your required carbs/protein.

for snacks, I would see if there are any protein bars that meet your carb/protein needs that you could carry around with you.

A lot of hotels have mini fridges and one of my best snacks and lunches is fruit with unflavored greek yogurt. If it were me, I would see if there was a fridge and pack a cooler (or go grocery shopping when you get there) to stock up on some options for snacks and meals.

  • I would stick with chain restaurants like PP mentioned so you can plan your meal ahead of time.  they also gave me a chart to estimate carbs if I'm eating out and can't look up nutrition info but I don't trust that since I seem to get high numbers if I barely go over the minimum they want me to have at each meal.  you may be able to find a chart like that online and print out and take with you?  good luck and have fun!

  • get some nuts as snacks
  • I had to travel for work with GD, and I found bringing my most portable snacks helped.

    I brought:

South Beach Diet Snack Bars in Whipped Chocolate Almond

Boost Glucose Control Protein Shakes (works if you have access to a refrigerator)

Nature Valley Protein Chewy Bars in Peanut Butter Dark Chocolate

I also walked a lot after meals and my #s were pretty good.
