So, two days ago I went to feed my son and my milk wouldn't let down. After 5-10 minutes of trying I became super stressed and DH distracted C for a while so I could calm down. We then tried again and still, nothing. Ended up giving C a bottle of pumped milk (which is very few and far between... I work from home so 99.9% of the time he BFs directly). Later that night, no problem. I figured it was a fluke. Well, the same thing happened this morning. It is really taking a toll on me and my BFing confidence. This has never happened before and I am really working myself into a deeply scared tizzy over it. I know stressing about it is only making things worse. Has this happened to any of you? Any suggestions? I am making myself crazy here.
Re: BF Mamas - Advice Needed!
This. Also, it's not uncommon to start having supply issues or issues letting down around 8-9 months. I know your milk starts to change in nutrient content/concentration again around that time like it did around 3-4 months. Maybe that has something to do with it?
Thanks for all of your responses. Oddly, I have always been able to feel my letdown (unfortunate, because I am not a huge fan of the feeling); this is probably the reason I'm stressing so much about the occurrences. I never really take anything aside from my daily vitamin and I did try pumping to induce let down but nothing happened. I know there have been a few times that my supply has dipped, but I haven't ever dealt with simply not letting down whatever is in there. I will tell DH that I have to take a nap to maintain my supply
. And I'll try heat and massage next time... it's just so hard to relax and calm down when you have a hungry, fussing baby!
This really scares me! I have never worried when going somewhere that I have to bring some sort of back-up, but this makes me think that I should! Unfortunately, he still hasn't really taken to solids, so I can't even bank on that to stave off his hunger.
