Potty Training

Potty Training and UTI??

-->

So we started potty training my daughter (turned 2 last month) on Saturday. She is doing pretty well considering we are only on day 3. This morning however she told DH she had to go pee pee and sat on the potty but when she pee'd (and it was a big one) she cried. Is this normal or could she have a UTI?

Yesterday she seemed to say she had to pee all the time and we were running her to the toilet like every 10 mins but she didn't pee. I'm wondering if maybe it hurts or if this is just part of the process of understanding her body.

Re: Potty Training and UTI??

  • It could be. I'd watch for fever irratability, and foul smelling pee.

    With that said, my dd cries when she peed when we first started also. Some days, we are also running her to the potty every 10 mins because she uses the "I pee" to get out of something she doesn't want to do and for extra attention.

  • I think it's less likely a UTI and more the newness of the feeling of peeing without a diaper right there. I posted below about my DD (26mo) crying when peeing, and after about 4-5 days, she got over it.  A big pee feels especially strong, if she had a lot of bladder pressure. I wouldn't worry, she's still learning.
