I'd love to get some feedback from some experienced parents.
I am TTC and am slowly collecting baby gear from friends whose kids have outgrown them. In most cases the stuff I've gotten was free or supercheap. Basically I've been willing to help out friends who just want to get stuff out of their houses.
Recently a friend posted to Facebook advertising an Ergo Performance carrier and Baby Jogger Mini Single Stroller, both in excellent shape. I told her I was interested and asked how much she was looking for. She replied that she was hoping to get a good return on them and that we'd talk in a couple of weeks.
The Ergo Performance retails at around $200 and the stroller is $399.
What would you consider to be reasonable offers for these items? I'd like to get some kind of bargain, but I also don't want to offend my friend.
Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks!
Re: Don't Want to Offend My Friend
Her son just turned 2, so they aren't any older than 2 years.
There is also the possibility that this stuff hasn't been used very much. She was so excited to be a mom that she bought a bunch of stuff that she thought she'd need. Some of it she used and some of it went by the wayside. I think she used this stuff, though.
I agree I would check Craigslist. I find prices on used baby stuff to be regional based on what I've seen quoted here.
BFP #2 7/18/11 - EDD 3/29/12 - Born 3/13/12
BFP #1 4/4/11 - Natural M/C - 7w1d - 4/30/11
This is all excellent advice. My plan is to check Craigslist and then figure out my offers. I'm glad to note that my original offer ideas aren't completely off-base. Thank you, everybody!
Honestly, I wouldn't buy stuff if I was just TTC.
Taking some used things is fine, but buying stuff? Your taste might change in the next year or so.
When you've been married this long, you need a ticker to remind you.

Also what if cool new stuff comes out by the time you're PG?!
I am assuming that you are referring to canadian prices, because I was a little shocked at your reference costs. I think people often try to sell premium baby gear at 50-80% of the price paid, depending on condition and age. Unless you are getting these things at a steal or as hand me downs, I wouldn't be trying to purchase such big items while I was TTC. Better and newer products come along and things like specific models of baby carriers and strollers really warrant some sort of personal research and justification for your current lifestyle and circumstances.

I all about the bargain, so I probalby won't want to buy this if she is looking to get a "good return", especially if you are just TTC.
Best of luck.
