Odd question

I bought DS1 a dollhouse for his birthday in Aug. I have been instructed by XH to refer to it only as a "house" btw. And I bought the doll "family" and furniture. DS is mostly about the furniture. I couldn't tear him away from his cousin's dollhouse chairs. So let me admit now that I am over thinking this.

The family is a mom, dad, brother, and sister. And I thought, well that's typical, and bought an extra boy so he could have a brother instead of a sister. I planned to just put the dad and sister away since our little family is me and the two boys. But then I thought, wait even though I want him to know that our family is good I want him to recognize that ideally there is a mom and dad, and heck there could even be a sister, just not in our family.

I'm curious what other moms would do. Give him mom and two boys to represent our family? Or give him mom, dad, two brothers, and a sister because seriously they are only dolls, crazy woman!?

Your opinions having been solicited I totally reserve the right to ignore all your opinions and give him only our representative family because I do not want to hear how one of the females is dad's GF. So?

  • You're over thinking it. You could, if you were so inclined, talk to him about the different types of family structures... How usually a family is a mommy, a daddy and kid(s). Sometimes there's just a mommy, sometimes there's just a daddy... sometimes there are two brothers, sometimes a brother and a sister, etc.

But yeah, do whatever you want. Kudos to you for getting your son a dollhouse because he wanted one Smile

  • I agree with PP, way to go on getting him the doll house! I say give him all the dolls, who knows how he will play with them or how he will use them to build the concept of family. A good conversation is "families come in different shapes and sizes" Maybe look for a book that has a similar message.
