Possible water breaking. Wwyd?

I was in a meeting earlier and felt a pop in the upper left of my uterus. I for sure thought I was going to get up and have a gush. But nothing! I have been losing my mucus plug since this morning. My question isn't if I am in labor but wwyd? Wait and see if anything more concrete happens or go to labor and delivery to be checked? I am a little wet but it's not gushing or anything that would make me think its more than watery discharge.

  • I'd hold tight and see if contractions start or you do get a gush at any point.  To me it doesn't sound like waterbreaking, but I'm a FTM.

Or call your doctor and see what he says.

Either way I wouldn't just head to L&D.

  • Honestly, the first thing I'd do is call my doctor for advice. No one here can tell you for sure if it was your water breaking, and water doesn't always break in one giant gush. Sometimes, it's a slow trickle that lasts for hours. Call and tell your OB/midwife and describe any other symptoms; they'll be able to give you further instructions.

Ok thank you. I want to hold tight but my husband was wanting me to go in. My water broke with my first and it was about the same pop but with my first it was like a waterfall. I hope this isn't it. I want another week before he makes his appearance.

  • I always feel pops! It's Nottingham water breaking but my baby making an abrupt movement. If you are really worried, call labor and delivery and ask them. There is a swab test they can do to see if it is amniotic fluid you are leaking or if it is just an increase in discharge.

Thank you for your advice. I don't think anyone here can tell me If my water broke...shoot I don't even know if it did. Just wondering what others would do in this situation.

When my water broke it was a tiny pop, then a small little gush.  Then nothing.  Then I went back to bed then another tiny gush.  I wasn't even sure it was my water breaking until contractions started an hour later.   Sometimes the babies head acts as a "stopper" and prevents more water from coming out.  Try changing positions (lie down, walk around, etc) and see if it continues.

I'm a FTM too but this is what I would do - wait to see if anything else happens or i you are really worried call the doctor!

  • Ok thanks everyone for the advice. I think I'm just goin to wait it out and see if anything changes. I tried lying down for a bit and getting up to see if I felt anything and no gushes. I assume I have 24 hours anyways before the risk of infection kicks in if it was my water.

  • If it happened to me, I'd call my midwife(s). They're pretty accessible so just talking to them over the phone regarding what happened would determine the next steps. I'd call sooner than later in case they want you to come in and test whether the discharge is amniotic fluid.

Most likely I'd skip asking Internet strangers that I haven't bothered to get to know before now and call my doctor to ask them what I should do.

    Hey, you asked...

Oh, I'm sorry didn't know there was a minimum amount of posts I had to make on this board before I could ask a question. I have introduced myself and spent plenty of time lurking so as to not ask questions that have been asked a million times....but your advice is ever so helpful.
