What to do about roaches?

So we rent a house and have been here for a few years and recently I've noticed some bugs that looked like roaches. Sure enough they are! Smaller ones and mostly in the kitchen. It's crazy because we try to keep the house really clean but our two little ones make such messes it's hard to get it all.

Anyways. I would hate to call the exterminator because I don't know what kinds of chemicals they would spray around where my kids play, plus I am pregnant. Anyone have any tips on what to do? I need help I'm freaking out over here

Re: What to do about roaches?

  •  what I did,was to clean everything in the kitchen, specially behind the refrigerator, stove and dish washer,(yes,I move everything.)I used boric acid, hot water and soap.to clean them all,for the cabinets,I used only hot water and soap.after done cleaning everything I sprinkle some boric acid, behind the refrigerator, stove and dish washer.

after i did all,I don't have any problems of having roaches.

by the way,I did find the boric acid at ride aid store,it was like five year ago.I not so sure it they still selling it.

    good luck.

  • I forgot to tell you, that you can also use borax,if you don't find the boric acid.the only thing with borax is that you may need to sprinkle often, and you may need to mix it with sugar.also the reason I clean behind the refrigerator, and other electro domestic,it because the cockroach love to hide in those places.and if you don't clean where they hide first you may not be able to get rid of them.

If you're wanting to use any kind of pesticide...I would recommend Zodiac foggers. I live in Kansas and we have flying roaches. My building is old and I don't have a bug problem in my apartment, but I used the foggers before I moved in and I use them every couple of months for peace of mind since I'm OCD. They kill everything (roaches, fleas, flea eggs, spiders, etc). But after the area is aired out its okay for children and pets. I get them from tractor supply company and it's like $15 for 3 foggers (use one in each room).

Diatomaceous earth is non-toxic and apparently is good for bug control.
