This is not my normal board as my son is almost 1 but a consignment shop is having a huge sale next week. The clothes that are on sale are for the current season. I am planning on getting basically my son's entire wardrode for next Summer (when he will turn 2). But I have no idea what size he will need. What size clothes are your 2 year olds wearing? Thanks fo the help!
P.S. My son is 11 months and on track to outgrow his 12 month clothes by his birthday. He's probably about 23 lbs right now. Looks like he will walk soon as well, if that helps.
Re: What size clothes at 24 months?
DD is the tallest baby and toddler my pedi has had. She is pushing 4T and is 23mo. Almost to the big 2yr mark!
Edit: I agree with the pp that different brands fit differently. Also various materials fit differently, too. For example bathing suits run very small on my DD so we buy up. Pants with buttons won't stay up on her waist, but would be too short if we went down a size. So buying elastic waist pants and a size up never hurts in my opinion.

I have a tall and skinny guy, he wears some 18 mos shorts, but with the cloth diapers he can fit fine into 24 months or 2T also. Shirts, mostly 24 months or 2T.
He's in the 10th percentile for weight and the 60th for height.
My 50% percentile toddler was wearing 2T at 24 months.
ETA: Old Navy runs small, so he wears a 3T from ON. He is about 37" and 30 lbs and he is still wearing a 2T from most brands.
DD1 and DD2 were both in 3T at 2 years, although some 2T did fit. We needed 3T in tops and dresses for their height.
When I bought ahead, I plotted their growth on one of those growth charts, determined what percentile they fell into, and used that to estimate what their size would be the next year. Then I looked at the size charts of different brands to see what size I should buy.

DD1 was almost the same size at 2 years - 29 lbs 12 oz and 37 3/4", yet she needed 3T for dresses and shirts and either 2T or 3T for shorts and pants. Just goes to show you that even kids that are similar in size will need different sized clothes based on their body types.

Nope, I don't try to buy clothes ahead, either. My kids pretty much never wear clothes "true to size." DD1 is 3, tall and skinny, and can wear anything from 24m to 4T depending on brand/style/type. DD2 is 21 months and in 12-18 month clothes with room to grow, and she also has a growth delay causing an erratic growth pattern. I've gotten burned buying clothes ahead and ending up with the wrong size for the season, so I just don't try any more unless it's something that can be worn across seasons.

My daughter is almost 26 months. At her 2 year check up she weighed 26.6 pounds. I think she still weighs about the same. She has always been in the 50th percentile for weight. She was 33.5 inches tall. She has been wearing 24 month, 2T and 3T shirts for a couple months. It depends on the brand and some the 3T isnt much bigger than the 2T. Pants need to be smaller. She is mostly in 18 month size pants and now some 24 month and 2T size shorts/skirts. If an outfit or pajamas is a set I buy 24 months because of the difference in size on top and bottom. She has usually been in the corresponding size for her age but can wear the same size for months. Hope this helps. Sorry its so long.
ETA: If your child is outgrowing the 12 month size now I would buy 3T shirts for next summer just to be safe. Not sure if he runs the same on top and bottom but maybe a size smaller on bottoms like size 24 months or 2T.
