I've heard that soy can be bad to eat when prego. Is that true or does anybody know anything about it? I've googled and some say yes some say no. I love my cereal and it has soy...!
I believe that soy is bad, period. It mimics estrogen in the body. I was on a soy milk kick for a while. During that time, my uterine fibroids grew quite a bit and I had to have them surgically removed. I don't know if it's just coincidence, but it made me wonder if it was the soy. It's used as a filler in so many products, including baby formula. I've been trying to find one with no soy, but it doesn't exist. I think if you're consuming a lot of it, it could be bad. Best to avoid processed foods anyway, not just because of the soy.
I don't drink soy milk, I actually drink almond milk. It's just the soy that is in a Kashi cereal I've been snacking on. It's one of the protein sources in it. Thanks for your inputs!
I'm vegan and have been vegetarian for over 20 years, so I've consumed my share of soy. I had an issue a few years ago where I didn't get my period for awhile and I think it was because I was consuming too much soy (too much like soy with every single meal and not "clean" soy). Since then I've learned to enjoy soy in moderation and mix up my protein sources more. I try to avoid soy that is overly process (fake meats made with soy) or soy isolates, and get only organic soy products because I know it's gmo-free. I use to Kashi cereal as well, but have stopped since it's not gmo-free. I actually have a friend who ate Kashi every morning and stopped because of the soy and he felt a world of difference. I also think it depends on your soy tolerance (just as some people have gluten intolerance).
Re: Soy?
I agree with PP. Plus, a lot of soy these days are GMO produced (which may or may not bother you).
I would switch to Almond milk. I drink Silk almond milk because it states they are part of the non-gmo project.
