What's the difference between kinderpack and action baby carrier?

What's the difference between Kinderpack and action baby carrier?

I am trying to compare the two, and I really can't decide. I want to be able to have the option to cross the straps in the back, so I know others like the tula are out. Are the straps too bulky on the KP to cross? Will they be hotter on my shoulders than the ABC? Does the fact that the ABC have lighter material make it less supportive? What about the straps going all the way through on the ABC vs just being attached on the KP?

Anyone have any experience with these two? I am in a hot climate, so keeping DD and I both cool is very important to me.

  • I've never tried a KP, but I do have an ABC toddler and I really like it.  To address your question of it the ABC material is supportive enough, I put my 6 year old nephew in it at Christmas and it supported him fine.  He was only it in 5 minutes, but I have absolutely no concerns about the strength of the material.

  • They are sort of opposite ends of the spectrum of SSCs - the ABC is fairly lightweight, has a flat body (LO sits closer to you) and the waist is padded instead of structured.  The KP is more heavily padded and has a firm waist; the body is designed to form a seat for LO so LO sits lower and back a bit.

The KP doesn't allow straps to cross in a front carry.  I mean you can do it but it's not designed to do it so the straps won't lay flat.  The ABC is cooler IMO as it is less padded.  The KP does have the mesh option which will keep baby cooler (and in theory therefore you cooler) - honestly, I don't see much of a difference.

If I were wearing a preschooler, I'd say the KP is more supportive as you can get a larger body size.  The Toddler ABC wears in between the standard and toddler KP size wise.  I have comfortably worn my 4 year old in the toddler ABC before though.  If you like a firmer waist, you'll like the KP better most likely.  I really like the softer ABC waist as I can comfortably wear it higher which I prefer.

Both are solidly constructed.  To be honest, I think the KP is about the best engineered and sewn carrier out there - I've never ever seen one with even a tiny flaw (they are also made in the US).  The ABC is probably my personal favorite SSC as I prefer less structure - I have and like both though :)

What size child? The Kinderpack with comfort mesh or koolnit is a good option, so is the Bloo Kangaroo Kanga Sport. The Kinderpack will not cross straps, but the Kanga Sport will.

She's almost 13 months, 18lbs, 27.5 inches. I have never heard of the Bloo Kangaroo, though their site does not make it seem like I will be able to get one anytime soon. I'll look into that one as well, thanks!! I also have been told that the newer KPs have straps that are not as bulky as the original and are able to be crossed. Is that incorrect?

I really like Kangas (bloo kangaroo) but they are harder to come by and more expensive.  They are easier to get used, or if you follow her on Facebook you can catch the semi-customs she sometimes posts.

Technically any SSC with curved straps is not meant to be worn with the straps crossed - that includes Kinderpack.  It wouldn't be dangerous to do it or anything but the straps won't lay flat across your back really because they are contoured.
