Babies: 0 - 3 Months

how far in advance

How far in advance did you make arrangements for LO to start Daycare? I am going back to work mid-August (teacher) We are wanting to find someone to watch her in their home-not an actual DC, just a SAHM with maybe one or no kids. I have thrown it out there that that's our plan but haven't seriously started asking around (mainly because we are waiting to see if DH will be working on the side of town where I work or where we live) So I was just wondering when everyone else made their plans set in stone???

We set our plans just before LO was born and had our contract signed with the daycare about a week after he was born. It's an in home daycare but competition for spots can be high so we wanted to plan ahead. He starts Aug. 5th.

  • I didnt start looking until I had 2 months before I went back to work, where we live I have contacted 7 differnt people and they are all FULL!! So now we are scrambling to find someone to keep her. I would start looking now.
  • Jack was born May 8. I started calling around end of April and i am waitlisted at the in home day care i want to send him to in September. My back up plan had one spot left for September.

  • It depends so much on the area. We got on wait lists when I was 12 weeks pregnant both times. Each time our #1 choice became available about 2 weeks after I started work, so we had to make due for the time being. Oh and also? DS1 is 3yo and I literally just got a call from one of the places we had him waitlisted  in Oct 2009. lololol

I would start looking now. My mom was one of the most popular in-home babysitters in our town (only sitting for one family at a time) and she had a wait list that was years long.

  • We secured our spot several months into my pregnancy, and I stayed at home for almost six months. We live in a rural area and some daycare a have wait lists years long.

We made our plans months ago. I think maybe back in January. At that point, our daycare only had one infant spot left for the fall.
  • I am a teacher too and we ar interviewing nannies now for August. I am fully aware that it's really too late to get DS into a good daycare at this point, but I don't wan to send him to daycare this young anyway.
