Baptism??

Would it be silly for me to have 2 godmothers for DS and 1 godfather? I am of course having my sister as the godmother and SO asked his brother to be his godfather but I would like to also ask my best friends 13 yearold daughter who absolutely adores DS. Not sure what to do. Opinions please!!

  • I'm not sure what denomination you are, but I know in Catholicism you're only allowed to have one godmother and one godfather. I'd check with your church.

Hmm, yeah I am not  sure that I would use the 13 year old daughter.  Simply because of the role that a godparent is suppose to have for your child.  In my church, the godparent/sponors are to thought to help raise the child up spiritually and to think and pray for the child and their faith. So I am not quite sure if a 13 year old would take on those responsbilities though maybe this one would.
  • Thanks ladies I will check with my Pastor.

I would ask the pastor/minister of your church. I don't know if a kid can be a godmother. Maybe make another honary position for her?

This. Also some churches won't let you have more than one godparent of each sex. We hoped to have my sister and DH's sister be godparents but we're Catholic and that's a no go.

  • I say that if your church allows it; you do whatever your heart and gut tell you. I think it would mean the world to the little girl.. What a great and special bond for your little one.

Thanks!! I am going to talk to my pastor and if they allow it I think I will ask her....she can be an honorary godmother perhaps.

  • We have two godmothers and one godfather for DD. One is my best friend, the others are my cousin and his wife.
  • We had multiple godparents. My sister and her husband and his sister. Our church had no problems with it.

  • We were raised Roman Catholic, they seem to be the most strict, and my oldest sister is my youngest sister's godmother and she was only 14 at the time. Also my nephew who is 17 just became my youngest nephew's godfather this past April. I think being a godparent is more about giving that special bond and closeness nowadays...

this. Honestly, a 13-year-old godmother seems a bit ridiculous to me.

  • She's not going to be 13 forever. She could turn out to be a better godmother than a grown woman
