Re: Favorite/ least favorite name trends GTKY
1) Boy names on girls.
2) Old lady/man names.
3) My DD's name is Betty.
1. What is your least favorite name trend?
Probably over cutesty names on either boys or girls. I think people forget you are essentially naming a person, not just a baby
2. What is your favorite?
I love all of the vintage names
3. Do any of your kid's name or future kid's names follow these trends?
I think DD's name qualifies as a vintage name. Some of the names on my future list are also vintage-y (like August) but most are super traditional and not trendy (Margaret and Robert).

1. Made up names
2. Classic/Traditional names
3. We don't have kids yet, but I think if we have a girl she will have either a very classic name or something very feminine (Calla, Scarlett, Colette etc.). For a boy, I'm not sure.
1. Spelling changes
2. Old lady names
3. Nope.
1. Adding y's to everything.
2. Vintage names
3. Pretty much. We don't have children yet, but we've talked out the names already. They are all old family names (grand- or great-grand-), other than Josephine. That was the only "Jo" name we could agree on, since DH insists on "having a girl named 'Jo'".

Least favorite:
Boy names on girls,
-lyn name endings on boys,
-son ending on girl names except for Alison
The names Mason and Jackson... stupid
Misspelled names... more stupid
Favorite name trends:
The old names coming back
More uncommon names being used
Using family names
Followed trends:
Both my kids' names are uncommon
And family
Our future DD's name is considered unisex. which I don't like.
1. Least favorite: Probably names like Paisley. Cute for your new pup, but not your baby, IMO.
2. Favorite: I like some of the older names I'm hearing recently, like Eleanor.
3. I don't think so
1. Wacky spelling
2. Surname used as given name
3. DS's name isn't a common surname, but I've seen it used once as. Mostly I like surnames exclusively on boys. There are a few I like for girls.
God I hate Paisley. Ugly fabric, even uglier as a name.
1. What is your least favorite name trend?
Parents who pick a name with zero research or care about meaning. If you take two seconds you can see that that "super unique" name you want to use is actually insanely popular and potentially ridiculous.
Also boys names for girls.
2. What is your favorite?
I appreciate the classics coming back.
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends?
Both. DD's name is technically masculine and classic (well, not popular classic, but OLD classic)
1. What is your least favorite name trend? Boy names for girls
2. What is your favorite? Popular names or surnames as first names
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends? Yes. My son has a popular name. This baby will probably have either a popular name or a surname as first name.
Congrats on your pregnancy!
1. Misspelled names.
2. Classic names.
3. Not really. DS's name is pretty common, but not "classic." And I know how to spell lol.
1. What is your least favorite name trend?
Girls' names that end with Lyn (K.aitlynn, B.rookelyn, J.aylyn). ETA: I also hate names that are completely made up and have zero meaning (my niece's name is K.aysia!).
2. What is your favorite?
ETA: I'm really loving hipster baby names.
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends?
Yes, I recently added the name Evelyn to our list. I especially love the meaning of this name, which is "wished for child".

1. What is your least favorite name trend?
Boy names on girls (yes I know there is debate as to whether or not this is a "trend" but I think it is becoming even more popular than ever before, therefore trendy.
2. What is your favorite? Irish names/surnames
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends?
No but both of my boys have names that are trending toward girl, which explains why I hate the trend so much.I have been totally crushing on Edith lately-- DH and I just got caught up on Downton Abbey.

1. The "aiden/ayden" trend. Or, intentional misspellings (ie, with Xs and Ys)
2. Older family names.
3. My twins both have family names. Both FN and MN are family names. (Wil)Liam Ryan (William was H's grandfather's name and Ryan is H's FN. Yes, we will call him Liam later on because we prefer it over Will(y) and Bill(y).) And Eva Maxine (Eva was my great grandmother's MN, but it's what she went by. Maxine is my paternal grandmother's MN.) I consider both Eva and Maxine old lady-ish names, but I love them. William is more traditional but still so great.
1. Boy names on girls or cutesy names or 'y' substitutions.
2. Older names that are resurfacing
3. Not really. I have a Nolan and an Archer.
1. My least favorite trend is people trying too hard to be on trend with their choices.
2. My favorite is traditional or sentimental choices.
3. Yes, all three of mine are pretty traditional and they all were chosen with some meaning behind each choice.
1. My least favorite trend is anything with the "aden" sound: Aiden, Kaden, Brayden, Jayden. All of these sound girly to me except for plain Aiden.
2. My favorite trend is using last names as first names: Jefferson, Lincoln (presidential ones sound good to me) but my favorite one is Thoreau. It's manly and strong.
3. I'm a FTM due in Jan and my favorite right now is Rhys, which follows neither trend.
1. What is your least favorite name trend? Filler middle names: Ann, Marie, Lynn, etc.
2. What is your favorite? Classic but not common.
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends? DD's name has never been very common. I think it's pretty classic sounding though.
1. What is your least favorite name trend?
The awful intentional misspelling of good names, and the ridiculous over the top macho/cheeseball names for boys (like Magnus, Axel, Cash, Tyson).
2. What is your favorite name trend?
Pretty, but not overly cutesy names, like Liliana, Adeline, Emmeline, and Aurora.
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends?
I don't think his name follows any trend. We picked a name with a good meaning that has one legit spelling and has a long history.
Leading front runner for phantom baby girl is Carys, which minus the spelling variations, follows the same criteria.

1. Least favorite trends-old man/woman names on babies or anything ending in den, such as aiden, etc.
2. Favorite trends-family names
3. Nope
1. Superfluous X (Jaxson) or misspelled
2. Family names
3. Yes, DD1 is Hadley (family female FN on H's side) Katherine (after my mom) and DD2's MN is Caroline after my MIL. If we ever have a boy, he will be August David (MN is H's MN also.)
2. I like old lady names and family names
3. Dd is Ella Jane. I am not sure what category Ella fits into but Jane is my grandma's middle name
2. What is your favorite? -- surname first names, masculine names on girls
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends? -- no
2. Last names as first names
3. My son's name is Callan...more last namey than first
1. What is your least favorite name trend? Filler middle names: Grace, Elizabeth, Ann, Marie, Lynn, Rose, etc
Also forever elderly names: Agatha, Beatrice, Millicent, Blanche, Edith, Frances, Opal, Pearl, Ruth, Albert, Edmund, Gilbert, Harold, Milton, Raymond, etc
2. What is your favorite? I love whimsical girl names, but I'm a bit of a sucker for boys names on girls.
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends? Baby on the way is Aspen Harlow. Aspen follows the nature name trend, and while its incredibly obscure in my neck of the woods, Harlow seems to have become of a bit of a trend as well. Future babies names may or may not be trendy by time they make their way into the world.
1. What is your least favorite name trend? Smoosh names and misspelled names. Names like Ashlyn (or worse) really bug me.
2. What is your favorite? Family names and boys names for girls and also girly girl names (like Lorelai).
3. Do any of your kid's names or future kid's names follow these trends? Yes, for the most part. DS10 is named after his dad and grandad with his great-grandfather's initials; DS6 is named after two great-grandfathers; DD has a boys name and is named after her great-great-grandpa and her grandpa (my dad). We love family names!

1. Youneek spellings.
2. Although I like old fashioned names I do NOT like that they're becoming popular again and are therefore on trend. I'd rather them stay hidden gems. So I guess I don't really have one. If I have to pick I don't hate the "lyn" spelling as much as other trends.
3. Theodore is rising in popularity. When I was 15 I was all over the youneek spellings, thankfully I grew out of that but otherwise then I guess that would be possible.
2. Family names
3. dd is named after a great aunt and ds is IV
2. I like that made up names are going out of style. I do not have a favorite trend.
3. Nope!
2. I like old or classic names and prefer names that have a good nickname.
3. Yes.
1. Agree with PP - boy names on girls.
2. Trying to find "underused but classic" names
3. I think so - Nathaniel.
