Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

Ready or not? Potty training.

So I started potty training my 19 month old daughter today. I know she is young but my plan is to try it for a week and if she is sorta catching on then continue, if however she is not taking to it I will go back to diapers untill she is two. She can tell me when she is about to potty (like 2 second warning) but even when she has to pee she still says "i poop". She has been wanting to take her diaper off to pee but then doesnt pee once it is off. So this morning I put her in underwear at 7 am. I took her to the potty every 30 min but she never peed. About 10 she said "poop diap diap" so I rushed her to the potty and she got most of the poop in the potty. Then about 11 am she once again said "poop" but this time she peed before I got her to the potty. She stayed dry untill nap time at 1 pm and I put a diaper on her. At 3 I put underwear back on her and she stayed dry untill about 5. That time she told me after she had already peed. Then she stayed dry untill bedtime. So am I doing this right? Does she seem ready?

Re: Ready or not? Potty training.

  • I know a mother who had all three of her children potty trained by the time they turned two. She said it would have been so much harder to train after two because they start to get voices, personality and in some cases attitude. My plan is to start training around eighteen months and fingers crossed he is trained by two! I think you should go for it and keep working with her... She sounds like she is getting the idea of using the potty and she seems to not have any fears which I have heard iis typical with older kiddos
