Parenting after a Loss

Yoga made me cry

This is odd.  Our office brings in yogis to teach yoga classes twice a week - which is SO great!  One of the teachers works here - but she's certified to teach and she's awesome.  She brings in her own music and for the last 2 weeks she's had this song on her playlist - "Let Go" by Vicci Martinez and for the last 2 weeks I have cried my eyes out. The song plays during the cool-down part of the practice, so I can pay attention to the lyrics and the song is just so sad.  I find myself welling-up and before I know it, I'm crying.  I can usually make it through a day because my guard is up, but when I'm in yoga I'm really open and that darn song just finds a way in (plus, music is pretty emotional for me anyway).  I sent her a message asking if she can drop that song from the playlist and I feel pretty high-maintenance for even asking, but I really don't want to embarrass myself by running from the room bawling my eyes out.  (I'm a REALLY ugly crier.)  (Just got a msg back from her saying she'll take it out - but I still feel like I'm being an AW.)  Ok - that's it, defenses back up - time to get back to work.

Re: Yoga made me cry

  • The same thing happened to me. I joined yoga just after my third miscarriage and the instructor made it very therapeutic. She talked a lot but her words were really comforting to me Between being in the dark and the music I often just let go emotionally and it really helped me grieve. I can totally understand your request especially with being at work and all.

  • I think a lot of people can relate.. music can be such an emotional trigger.. I know I personally connect a LOT with music.. I randomly bawl my eyes out listening to certain songs on the radio.. I used to have a playlist that was filled with songs that made me "open up" emotionally.. it was my go-to whenever I needed a good cry..

I think you were completely justified :)

  • Speaking as a total Sappy Sally over here, I get it. Music is a HUGE emotional trigger for me, too. I can't ever make it through a worship service at church without crying at least a little, lol!

I think you were totally justified in your request. As a fellow ugly crier, I wouldn't want to be doing that at work!
