Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

follow-up to my "dentist?" post

I posted asking when everyone will take their child to the dentist... I had taken my lo (15mo) that day, but I was unsure it was the right decision.

I just had to follow-up for anyone on the fence about taking their lo and just say... that is the best thing I've done! The pediatric dentist showed us some different holds and tricks to brushing his teeth and while watching him I was thinking haha yeah right that won't work.  Well... everything he taught me has worked wonders!!! DS loves getting his teeth brushed and they are getting brushed very well now.  Now that I am able to brush them better I notice less swelling/pain from teething and no more yellow plaque.

I'm in no way trying to tell people how to parent or what to do but just wanted to say if someone is debating about taking their LO to a pediatric dentist... go for it!!

  • Thank you for posting this! Our first appointment is tomorrow and I've been on the fence as well. LO will be 21 months and used to love getting his teeth brushed, but lately it's been a chore. Glad to hear we may learn some useful tips :

  • Yes, thank you for the post.  We have a pediatric dentist near by.  When I asked my dentist about when my daughter should first come in, she said not until age 3.  Maybe I will check out the pediatric one.

  • I also agree that if you have a pediatric dentist it is very much worth going as they suggest, close to the 1 year mark.  I can't imagine just HOPING that all is okay with the potential for cavities and stuff being there, and having been there for years before knowing about it.
