Parenting after a Loss

Phoenix in July? Help!

My in-laws have a house in Phoenix which they are going to in July for 2 weeks or so. I am starting to think that maybe LO and myself are going to fly down there with them and spend 5-7days with them (Dh might possibly join us, and my SIL will be there too).

What is the temperature like? Is it going to be wicked hot and stuck inside the whole time? What kinds of things are there to do there in summer that are inside? LO will be 9 months. I'm not worried about the flight or anything, mostly things to do there. They do have a pool, but I'm not going to spending lots of time outside with him so I'm looking for things to do inside but that aren't just sitting around the house all day!

If anyone could help me out that would be great!

Re: Phoenix in July? Help!

  • My ILs live in Phoenix and we just got back from a visit. It was 105-108 for a high when we were there. The only time to really enjoy being outside is early morning. I am not really sure about places to go with a 9 month old, but did want to chime in on the temp.

I live in Phoenix and it's pretty much the surface of the sun here in July.  It's also monsoon season so soon it will be humid in addition to the heat.  I would recommend going to the Children's Museum, Science Museum, etc.  The zoo opens at 7 am in the summer, so if you can get up that early, it's really pleasant for the first couple of hours. There is also a water play area at the zoo that kids love so pack your LO a swimsuit. HTH!

Thanks that really helps! Is the Children's museum good for LO's? (9 months?) I know my in-laws took my nieces there in January but we didn't go because DS was only 3 months old.

I also live in Phx, aka the surface of the sun, and agree that you should stick to inside activities. It will easily be in the 115 range, if not 120s in July. There are lots of fun museums to visit, and they usually offer good interactive areas for kids. Even at 9mo the Science museum and Phx Childrens' museum are good, and I hear the Mesa Children's museum is even better. The zoo is also fun, but you'd have to go in the early hours. There are also tons of pools and splash areas, even just at the outdoor malls. Make sure you pack plenty of hats, and a long sleeve wet shirt if you're going to spend a lot of time in the pool. Oh, and STAY HYDRATED! Always carry water for yourself AND baby. I always have a sippy cup of just water on hand for DD. GL and have fun!

  • I think the other ladies covered it pretty well, we stay inside mostly and we have a pool. I just wanted to emphases the importance of hydrating, you don't realize how dehydrated you are but with how dry it is here you need to be extra careful. Also the hottest time of the day is late afternoon around 3-4 pm which is much later than I was used to growing up in California.
  • Thanks for all the help!! We'll keep everything in mind! Thanks!
