Tylenol/Teething ?

How many days in a row is too many for Tylenol? I feel like my LO shows signs of teething every day now... through the day I distract him and give him lots of cold things to chew but at night it's not soo easy and hes chomping his hands and crying some nights instead of settling.  How long does teething typically last and how many nights can I give him tylenol before bed in a row without maybe thinking he doesn't need it?

  • Lurking...

DD teethed for about a week for her bottom two. She is fine now. I only gave her Tylenol when she was really cranky, but it was about twice a day. Maybe how long you can use it is a good question for a pedi or pharmacist, I might ask at our 6 month appt.

  • Thank you! So far he's been getting one dose at bedtime about every other night (give or take) for this past week. If he wakes in distress I give him another. Today he woke and his bottom gums are shaped like teeth so Im hoping this will end soon. If not, Im not sure how comfortable I am to continue with Tylenol. I'll call telehealth.
  • I'm asking at our appointment next week too. Sam had the tooth bumps for almost a week and when they finally broke through, I breathed a sigh of relief...and then for some reason he got SO cranky, had runny nose, ate a lot less, etc. I thought the symptoms were supposed to go away once the teeth broke, but for him the 3 days following break through were the worst. We used Tylenol during the night for those 3 nights and he's slept pretty well, thank goodness. The worst has been the runny nose and hacking cough from "choking" on his own drool. So fun!

  • It's really up to you. As long as you don't exceed the dosage which I think is like every 4 hours? Anyways, I asked the same question a little while ago. I gave it to him 2 nights in a row at bedtime and didn't want to do it a third time. I decided to let him go to sleep and if it was a rough night and I knew he was in pain, I'd give him some. He slept great without it. During the day I never have. I just give him lots of teethers, and cold fruit, etc. But lately days are rough too! TEETHING SUCKS
