Mobile: Worst name of all time/ House Hunters International
Tonight on House Hunters International, they featured a woman and her son named.... Bug. BUG.

The buyers are looking for a house in the Caribbean in the episode, and see a remote place at one point. The buyer exclaims, "This is like a treehouse! A treehouse for Bug!". The irony/humor/sadness was not lost on me!
Bug means creepy crawly thing I dislike and want to smash. It also means 'to bother', akin to naming your son 'Pester' or 'Annoy'. Even though they make me cringe, I will take a Blakely/Bentley/Braxley/Berkley or boy names on girls over Bug any day.
Needless to say, this name REALLY bugs me.
Re: Worst name of all time/ House Hunters International
Ooooh my.
I would assume Bug was a nickname. Not everyone on TV wants their kid to be seen & their name given.
I would assume it was a nickname or a "nom-de-tv" for the child. One episode of House Hunters I remember, the couple called their son "Momo." I assumed (correctly as it turns out) that it was a nickname for something else.
As a previous posted indicated, it may be just for tv. I'd take names on tv with a grain of salt, I'm sure many of them, particularly on shows with identifying things like homes, neighborhoods, etc. may be made-up or pseudonyms.

I'm going with a nickname as well. Though after little North West, nothing really surprises me anymore.
I am reading a book right now and one of the character's NN is Bug. Because he eats bugs.
ew.
This. When I first read your post, I was thinking it must have been a nickname.
Same here. My first thought was that it was a nickname. I have a friend who calls her son Moose - it's not his name (which is Morris), but it could be mistaken as such by people who don't know.
Hmm, I could have sworn it was Bud.
Anyhoo, i'm sure it was a NN. It reminds me of a character in Uncle Buck. And now I feel old
