Trouble TTC

XP: MFI test questions

I normally post on ttcal, but there aren't many mfi on that board.

I'm really just looking for some information. Any websites or blogs that discuss mfi and miscarriage.

I'm also looking to find out more info on the sperm DNA frag test....I really want to know pricing on this test, but I can't find it listed on my local lab website to call and ask them about the price.

No testing done on dh yet, I have a 2wk fu appt with my re, and would like to have some knowledge on this in case it gets discussed.

TIA, any info would be greatly appreciated.

Re: XP: MFI test questions

  • Hi there! I don't have any advice on websites re: MFI...sorry.  Has your husband had a regular SA?  If not, I would start there.  We did do DHs sperm DNA fragmentation in December bc of our losses and DHs poor motility (we ended up trading improved motility for even worse morph).  Anyway, not all labs run this test, ours had to be frozen and sent to Chicago.  The whole cost was about $500.  They will give you a rating based in the percentage of fragmented sperm.  Ours happened to be "excellent", so I didn't look into it any further.

Hope some of this info was helpful :)

Thanks for sharing. I'm pleasantly surprised that the frag test was only 500. I bet if we do it, it'll go to Chicago also, we're in Missouri. Haven't done the basic SA yet, but its going to be done.

  • With mfi and loss...its not always rhe reason for loss. Have you have multiple losses and had a rpl done? We are mfi but our one cp was chalked up to my age of 35. In that age group there is a natural mc rate of 30. Only afyer mulitple loss would they bother with frag test and aince you have bot had an sa that is def where to start.

  • Our re required this since dh sperm count was low. 262, but one of the labs that specialize in this is just a half hour away. I know his result wasn't the best, but not horrible.

Had rpl, hysteroscopy, saline infused sonogram, and pelvic MRI after my 2nd loss. The only thing that came back was hetero mthfr a1298c. My previous two losses, nothing to be tested. This ones tissue is being tested, I'm hoping it'll shed some light, but if not, I'm just looking into further things to test.
