Cloth Diapering

Has anyone used G Diapers?

I am just starting to research cloth diapers. I found these at Babies R Us. Has anyone used them and can share pros/cons?

Re: Has anyone used G Diapers?

  • You're going to get pretty mixed reviews.  Some people love them, others hate them.  If you're attracted to a hybrid diaper (One you can snap in cloth liners OR disposible ones, there are other choices that I think are easier to use because you don't need plastic liners.  Check out Grovia and Flip diapers.

I personally do not like g diapers.  But as far as pros:  You can easily get them.

  • We have some in our stash.  We do love them for daytime, but I would never (and can't see how) they could ever be a nighttime solution.  Also, as much as they say you can just change out the insert, wipe clean the liner, put a new insert in...we have only been able to do this about two times.  Our baby is EBF, though, so NB poop is crazy

Like the PP said, as far as hybrids go, gdiapers involve a lot of steps and are pretty pricey.  They are super cute and trim, though! Other options are simpler and not as expensive.

The gcloth inserts are junk...I would use a different natural insert because gcloth are not that absorbent.

  • Pros:

    cute, trim

    Cons:

expensive, NOT absorbent, complicated (3 parts?? really??), can't really use overnight

I used them with pad-folded flats for awhile during the day, but I honestly prefer to use a regular (Flip, Bummis, Econobum) cover. Considering the covers I mentioned cost $14 or less (so less than one gPant...without the required gPouch to actually make it waterproof), these diapers just don't make sense to me at all.

  • I happen to be in camp Love 'em! BUT I use gDiapers during the day, and use BG 4.0's at night because E sleeps soo long (10-12 hours).  If you have trouble with leakage ever, you need more absorbancy.

The only downside I consider is that sometimes the covers feel damp, even when they aren't-- almost like they are sweaty or something.  That and DH doesn't get the concept that the cover does not have to be changed every time he changes the diaper...  But we love our g pants, and my fashion ignorant DH is constantly trying to coordinate E's diaper covers to match whatever shirt he is wearing, then leaving the baby only in shirt and diaper so he can show them off!  So, I guess it's good that DH loves our cloth diapers as much as I do.

  • I like them fine, though I won't say they're my favourite AI2. They are nice and trim though with good quality aplix and I like that they fasten at the back so DD can't take them off.

Having said that, we only started using gDiapers once DD was close to a year old so I wonder how the cover would do to keep in ebf poop - I'm thinking it would get on the cover every time which means you'd go through covers pretty quickly.

  • I consider myself pretty well versed and experimental in CDing, and g diapers frighten me. They look like a nightmare to use and spray out and they aren't even that cute, IMO.
